All good points... I'm not looking for a trophy hunt necessarily, really just an opportunity to hunt... but if the numbers are really that bad maybe this just isn't the year.
I've got 5 nonres points that I'm looking to spend this year. Right now I'm leaning toward units 46 or 79, based on toprut data.
I'll be driving in from CO so southern half of the state would be ideal.

Hey folks, I've got 7 preference points each for deer and elk and am looking to possibly use them up this year. I'd love to get your opinions on these seasons & units:
Elk:
unit 76 (1st rifle)
unit 49 (1st rifle)
unit 40 (4th rifle)
Deer:
Unit 551 (4th rifle)
Unit 79 (4th rifle)
Anyone know of a good place to find bears on public land in these units? I have the tag but am running into private land every time I find an area I want to scout.
