    New Zealand in May

Most visitor hunters seem to go guided (and therefore have a resident contact) or hunt with a NZ buddy. I have taken US visitors on hunts and they have used my rifle which is perfectly legal if hunting together. Bringing your own rifle here on a solo hunt can be tricky. But reach out if I...

    Hello from England

Welcome from New Zealand. I sure hope you make it to the US to hunt. You'll find fantastic people, amazing landscapes and expert hunters. I did my 10th trip from NZ this month and going back from more in Oct. If you don't have any points your options a limited but as a non US hunter like...

    2026 bears

Enjoyed reading this thread. I am flying to Montana tomorrow for my first spring bear hunt. Will be happy to just see a bear, but if I can shoot an adult bear of any size I will be happy!

Gaging interest in hunting NZ Wapiti/ fiordland deer 2025

Yeah, the bump in flight costs is a bummer. Fortunately I jumped online and purchase my years worth of flights early.

    Utah fees increase: keep applying?

That's the push I needed. Application underway.

    UTAH PRICE INCREASE

I thought I was out but having second thoughts! I would really like to explore Utah for a week or two with a tag in my pocket. My plan was to draw a general deer tag so have been buying points, I now have 5 points. And 2-3 points each for goat, limited deer, limited elk which aren't worth...

Average age of the hunt talk crowd.

I turned 56 last week. But I’m not letting the old in.

    Future hunting trips

I've got a spreadsheet with a rolling 6 years of western hunts planned for my son and I :) Seems pointless to list the hunts as my plan changes continually. But I have enough points to hunt deer, pronghorn, bear and elk that I don't plan to get bored.

    New Zealand Roar Hunt 2024

No fences for many miles. I passed up 25+ stags on public land, but mostly 6 - 10 pointers. I left a small 12 for my mate to shoot, he was happy.

    New Zealand Roar Hunt 2024

He was weak on the right side. It’s hard to see but a crab claw on his right top.

    New Zealand Roar Hunt 2024

Few photos from my 2026 roar hunt, same block. Great roaring action. No shooters seen, except for a camp meat hind. Now its time to see if the fallow deer are croaking.

Thanks, I don’t know you could to split / return the big game combo. Good to know.

    Montana Draw

Thanks guys. I guess my plan wont work as I cannot apply for a general elk combo and general deer combo separately in the same year.

    Montana Draw

I think I understand the MT application process but have been looking into how I can apply for archery elk and have rifle deer as a backup. I am buying bonus points in MT for elk (I have 5) and plan to apply for an archery elk permit. I know I have to draw a General Elk or Big Game Combo...

    No Country for Old Men

A fantastic movie. That scene was the first time I had seen pronghorn and I immediately decided I wanted to hunt them. PS that was before I had seen the rest of the movie :)

    MT Preference pts

The key to learning the MT system is to unlearn all you know about all other points systems!
