    Tumbling Brass

I tumble prior to resizing, then clean the primer pocket after they are sized. I have always done so, as others have mentioned to be kinder to my resizing die.

    Why IMR powder?

Did you try H4350, that is what I use in my .338 Win Mag.

    Tumbling Brass

That is what I have been doing for decades. Feed store corncob, midway polish and a piece of paper towel.

    Old Military Photos from Hunttalkers

MCRD with the old A1. Was not too big of a fan of that weapon back then, even though I qualified Expert five times in a row with the thing. The last UH-1N we had before before being made into a fixed wing squadron.

How small a buck would you shoulder mount?

Could not agree more. I am not a mount type of guy in any form. In 50 years of hunting I have never shoulder mounted anything. Have a bunch of horns hanging in the shop rafters though.

Optics, which states won't allow a magnifying lens?

Oregon is open ignition, no 209 primers, loose powder, no sabots, loaded from the muzzle only.

Average Joe Hunting Adventures with Dan and CJ

Great photo's of the kids and the daughters first fish! You had me 'hooked' early on with your daughter in the snow during the winter. Miss those years very much as my youngest is now 24. You guys staking out a place to watch the eclipse. Mrs and I are probably going to be up in the Monument...

    Hunting Boots: Lightweight Possible?

I have used Danners for decades, both as a work boot and a hunting boot. Almost all of the work boots have been at least one trip through their re crafting department in Portland OR. While not a mountaineering boot which I no longer need they have been by far the best line of boots I have worn...

    Becoming a Civilian

Sir, No matter what occurs I as well as a bunch of others have your back, always! I spent 8 years in the Corps (UH-1N and Ch46 Airframes Mechanic) well before you shoved your first throttle forward or pulled on a collective. There were many reasons for my leaving the Corps; cold war era, very...

    New from Montana

Welcome to the Forum CDR. As others have said, good bunch of folks around these parts. The wet, cloudy and lumpy side of MT is at the top of our list for relocation. We are already retired but still have family commitments here next to the big salty pond.

    Off to AK tomorrow AM...

Safe travels and good luck! Absolutely understand needing to be back for the speed goat tag. Those things are just to dang fun!

    Alaska on a budget?

No disrespect felt from my side Ed, but thank you all the same. Retirement same here except we cannot take in the side work, with a lot available these days ... we are at the income limit for our health care which would cost us a small fortune to replace it. Ah, the joys of retiring in your...

    Alaska on a budget?

Ever take into consideration that there are more involved than one and the planned trip was for more than one species. Everything in my situation is multiplied by two as my wife hunts as well. Strangely we managed to retire a decade earlier than most folks, everything we have we own, have zero...

    Alaska on a budget?

Yes, just noticed that myself. Absolutely bummed, over $600.00 for a Caribou tag just threw my lifetime dream of hunting AK out the window.

    Introduction From Northern California

Welcome aboard Sailor! My wife is a former CTM2 and I (to use your vernacular) a former AMH2 in the Marines. Even though we moved to Oregon when I was in grade school was originally from Mount Shasta.

Caliber for under 500 yard shots and big bears/Moose

I use a .338 WinMag for Browns/Moose and a 30-06 Ackley for everything else. The reason I chose a WinMag for up North was if for some reason I came up short of ammo it can be more readily acquired than some other calibers up North. Even though all I shoot in both rifles are hand loads. I have...

Preferred powder for Barnes TTSX .30-06?

I have tried various powders in my 30.06 and always come back to H4350 but I only shoot 165 grain projectiles out of it. Seems to be less temperature sensitive than other powders as well.

    .338 cases sticking

Thought that occurred to me is are you sure the chamber is smooth ... if it were rough the rounds would be difficult to extract as well.

    Slide in campers

I use a 8.5' Montana Ponderosa built by S&S Campers in Kalispell that I haul with a Dodge 2500 Cummins 6spd. Have had pull trailers, including a vintage Airstream in the past. For the wife and I and the way we use it the truck camper works great. This particular camper has twin 7 gallon LPG...

    Zeroing

I have always used a 200 yard zero. Out to 300 or so you just aim at the center and launch the bullet.
