    Rabbit cycle

Same thing in my area. Instead of seeing one around the fringes at dusk or early morning, I've seen multiples in my yard every day since spring began, once as many as eight of various ages. The hawks are having a heyday, as are the song dogs.

Float the S Platte in Denver

Pollution was so bad when I lived out there (mid 70's) that it was illegal to remove any water from the Platte, according to the Adams County coroner. With the growth the area has experienced since then I can't imagine there has been a great deal of improvement. I have floated a sizeable...

Civil War Battlefields Memorial Day Weekend

Many of those battlefields can be extremely emotional experiences. The horrors of Gettysburg can't be fully appreciated unless one views all the photos of the carnage that are available. Madness! My great-great grandfather died in Richmond in 1862 during the Richmond Campaign I believe. He lies...

    Show me your square body

Stuck is when your tires are in contact with Mother Earth but you can't get traction (Think wet and sticky Bentonite clay so prevalent out West). High centered is when they no longer are in contact with anything, brought about usually by too much throttle or bad decision making.

    Show me your square body

I had the shortened version, a '78 Bronco, same color and outfitted the same as yours except I had Posi and dual block heaters. Got thirteen MPG no matter how it was driven, and never got stuck. I got high centered twice, but never stuck.

    story telling movies

Hard to beat "The Quiet Man" with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. I've probably watched this movie 25 times since I first saw it as a preteen at the drive-in from the bed of my Dad's stake sided pick-up.

Spencer's double rifle from the 1923 TV Series

Was just thinking how intoxicating the smell in there would be. All it needs is the occasional puff of sagebrush fragrance and maybe a little horse sweat.

    My new granddaughter!

Congratulations Dave. Similar situation here, only mine is my first great granddaughter, born on Jan 30th. My late wife was named Rose, named after her grandmother, and the kids named our new generation Gemma Rose. I'll call her Roisin (pronounced Rosheen in the Irish) which translates to...

    Your dog’s quirk?

My daughter used to own a quirky Bernese. Every time we drove up to Raleigh to visit, the moment my wife came in the door Puck would go to her side and when she sat down he would come around and sit on her feet, anchoring her there. If she got up he was at her side where ever she went.

    History Found In the Field

Most likely Basque shepherds hired from the Pyrenees Mountains of Spain. The province this guy was from is in the North of Spain at the Western end of the Pyrenees. I used to run into their funky little round topped trailers in the Rockies and on the rare occasion could hear them calling back...

    Fried Catfish Poboy

It helps to use "House Autry" brand of fish breading. Made in Eastern NC but not sure if it's available in your area. I'm sure there are others and a dozen or more who are convinced their favorite is superior. Fish caught in the blackwater coastal plain streams and lakes of the Southeast are the...

    A question for pilots?

Go for it! I learned to fly in my mid fifties, chose a taildragger to learn in because I figured if I learned in a more difficult type the others would be a breeze. I got tired of renting so bought into a nice 172 with a fresh motor figuring my wife would be more inclined to ride with me than in...
