    AZ auction tags going away

I’m in favor of it. They ARE still allowing raffle hunts for the species to raise revenue. Time will tell if these increase in popularity.

Lots of tall ponderosa pines....tough to glass. You'd be better off glassing the open flats in the Woolhouse from small rises within there.

If you only have 7 days to hunt, I would choose the last 7 days of the season without a doubt. The peak of the rut is right around the first week of October near my place so the closer to then the better.

In the area next to 1 you won't see much glassing (ponderosa)....especially the actual areas where the elk rut. Water can be hit or miss, as this part of AZ is the wettest in the state so they are not as dependent on water as other units.....like near Flagstaff or Payson.

The Woolhouse wildlife area (walk-in only) will hold some decent bulls and less people due to vehicle restrictions. The Lake Mountain area can also be good…..especially near the unit 1/reservation border. Last year there was a good herd bull next to my place that nobody was hunting. A solid...

That sounds better. The full moon means absolutely nothing for them….I’ve arrowed them with a full moon and without. The amount of bugling is going to depend on the amount of monsoon we get this summer. Usually when we get a good monsoon the bugling is really good……to the point it’s hard to...

    Elk Pictures w/ Score

I've never arrowed a BIG bull.....just some nice bulls. I agree with Buzz, most nice bulls are in that 300-330" net range. I'm often the 'bearer of bad news" when I have to officially measure a bull for a hunter after he's been told his bull is giant. More often than not, it ends up measuring...
