Greetings,
It's hard to get away from bulky and heavy clothes for cold weather hunting (less than 30F). I agree with Ray, but would include using Goretex from head to foot for breathability. Oh yeah, a good rabbit fur hat is amazingly warm.
Take care,
Mike
Bill,
The same darn thing happens on whitetails! Sometimes they drop, and sometimes they don't. There doesn't seem to be a good explanation why -- just theories.
Thanks for the stories,
Mike
Ray In Alaska,
Nice to talk with ya again. You are one of a small handful that I have talked to that have taken a shoulder shot at a moose at longer ranges. Judging from your experiences, and a few others, with the 338WM, it seems to me the 35 Whelen would also be able to make the shot as...
Thanks guys for sharing your insights. I, too, would prefer the behind the shoulder lung shot, but if circumstances were such that you needed to try and drop the moose immediately, I would opt fo the double shoulder shot. Such an instance may be an evening hunt where a big moose presents a 250...
Greetings,
I'm wondering if anyone one here has used the 35 Whelen on moose? Does anyone think it will poke a hole through the shoulders of a bull moose beyond 250 yards?
Thanks,
Mike
I thumped myself as soon as I hit the submit button because I already knew this. Can't remember where I read about it, but it's between my ears somewhere.
Thanks.

Danr55,
I've been "lost" my whole darn life in some manner or another. I think it's hereditary. The name of our 40+ year old family deer hunting group is The Hopelessly Lost Deer Hunting Association(HLDHA). I'm one of two Yoopers part of "the association", so I think the handle somewhat...
Thanks for the links. There is certainly a lot of room for debate regarding sheer bullet weight vs. sectional density, BC's, and bullet quality. I'll leave this debate to others.
What I like about the 300 WSM (from what little I know) is the beltless case, short action, and ballistic...
I guess what I'm looking for is a few books that would include some of the newer rounds like the STW's and Ultra Mags. I'm getting tired of reading the same ole books about the same ole cartridges. I need more material!
Next year, I hope to buy a new rifle for moose and elk trips. I want...
Greetings all,
All of my ballistics and reloading books are nearly antiques and pretty well beat up too. I am looking to replace these books with more modern and up to date books. What do ya all recommend?
Thanks.
