Great job on the elk, so glad it paid off for you!
On the gulf coast we like to say, "everybody wants to go deep sea fishing until its time to go deep sea fishing."
Just before my trip, I met a guy who uses a candle for winter camping to add a little warmth. I did a deep dive and learned all about 'wet heat' versus 'dry heat'.
If you have a hot stove in your tent for warmth and/or condensation control, do not kill its benefits by using a candle, Buddy...
Use the stove to boil water and pour it into water bottles. Place the hot bottles in wet boots, sleeping bags, gloves, etc., to accelerate drying.
I tried wearing wet clothes in my sleeping bag this year and was pleased to see that it does work. The hot bottle speeds up this process.
For...
After my health insurance discounts ceased, we tried a local compounder, then found an online pharmacy through OrderlyMeds.
OrderlyMeds has a discount for a three-month starter pack ($166/mo), but it returns to being expensive again at $499/mo.
Today, our latest supply is from "Greenwich Rx"...
I didn't see the discount except for the renewed ones.
I have both Kahtoola and a trial from Amazon/Temu. The off-brands worked just okay; the clips holding the metal to the rubber blew out during our second trip. The name-brand spikes my kids wear in the same terrain as I are still running...
If your footprints compress the frozen H20 and never touch the ground, then you only entered the airspace above private land.
No stepladder, helicopter, marker, or paramotor necessary.
Just got back from my hunt this year, flying with two of my sons. I met my third son there.
On the way out, the MOB TSA (Mobile, AL) decided I needed to check my two (2) cloth backpacks since they did not fit neatly inside their gray box. They explained that it was because the scanner would...
Our airline tickets and hotel stay on the front and back end of the trip are free with points.
I rent from Turo, rent llamas for $50/day or less per llama. Some packers give you multiple-day discounts.
Here's some personal details for color/description, mixed in with what I do for air travel.
I remove the foam cushions from my gun case and replace them with my sleeping bag and other soft stuff. I also max out the weight limit for the case with all of my heavy stuff like binos, s-scope, etc...
I was posting my post when you posted this.
Love the spreadsheet. You presented an equivalent, quantitative outcome of my anecdotal auto-ownership narrative above.
I relate to you @Irrelevant. Vanity's overrated; so is rust as long as it is not mechanical/structural.
I gave my 2012 Tundra to my son, who joined the military. I drive my wife's old Odyssey minivan, and am proud to say she drives a newer, prettier SUV.
The hardest part about the minivan...
Dipping my toes into ID for the first time as an NR. This article helped. I also watched BigFin's vlogs on ID as they came out in subsequent years.
I apply to, and am familiar with a few other states. While it looks like ID's elk draws (December, February, then June) dovetails their timing with...
Got a reply from Peax:
"The colored LED for red and green puts out 400 lumens of light on the brightest setting. Let me know if you have any other questions."
I just got two of the Sofirns with red light capacity. As it turns out most red lights aren’t any brighter than 5 lumens and that’s in the rare case they list that rating.
The Peax Duo is eerily similar to the Sofirns, but doesn’t list the brightness of the red lights.
See here for the other...
Pulled the trigger on the SoFirn 25LR and started searching for a battery upgrade. I almost got a 9600mAh battery upgrade, but found out it may be a scam. ...Geez, not sure what battery to get; Amazon has tons of scammy batteries.
It's worth noting that the light allows charging the battery...
Trending towards Sofirn's H25LR(D25LR) LED Rechargeable light, unless someone has a better idea. The price of this little guy happens to be quite nice too.
Red Lumen ratings below:
I realize I could be missing the forest for the trees in the search I detailed above and below, so if anyone has already geeked out this research beyond what I'm trying to do, please correct me, lol.
I'm going to email Peax Backcountry for data on theirs. DUO at $95.00 (red or green below), but...
Thank you all for your inputs, all very helpful.
Long post/ condensed in one sentence:
Does anyone know of a headlamp that has a BRIGHTER red mode?
Bottom Line so far(still searching): The cheapest Fenix on the list below has the brightest and longest-lasting red and, ironically, is the...
