I've been looking over the Montrose County Road map and onX trying to figure out some roads to access places. My question is the roads that are segment id 9999 primitive pretty much an ATV road? I'm trying to decide if it'd be worth the extra bother to bring a trailer and ATV for a second rifle...
Looks like I am going to be solo for my 3rd season hunt this year. I really do not have a problem hunting solo, its the solo pack out that is not much fun.
Anyone who has hunted it in the past have any tips on the unit. I have watched Randy's hunt about 30 times and really studied the terrain.
CO GMU 61 or 40 for 1st rifle?
Oh, the dilemma. I'm geographically close to both and can probably spend equal time/effort scouting each. Near as I can tell, 61 has more country and more elk, but average bulls are a little smaller than in 40. 40 has lots of private to dance around, bigger...
I have enough points to draw this tag for rifle seasons 1 - 4. I usually hunt 3rd season over the counter so I am pretty familiar with where to look for bulls in this season. I do like the idea of going early because the weather may be better. I plan to do alot of scouting this summer to get...
Drew a Unit 61 bear tag for this fall and am wondering if anyone has experience in this unit? I've pull some harvest data from the DOW and spoke with the biologist so have some areas I'm planning to check out. I've never been in the Unit but am heading out this weekend to scout before the...
I have enough points to draw and am looking for a partner who can draw it also. I am a CO resident so I can scout the unit. I am 48 and in excellent shape, I have been hunting elk since 2004 and have killed 12 elk. I have all of the camping and hunting equipment needed for this trip. Just need a...
I have been contemplating this decision for a very long time. I'm at 22 points and am trying to decide how to apply for CO elk this year as a non-resident. I would virtually be guaranteed a Unit 61 muzzleloader tag. I should have about 25% odds to draw Unit 2 archery elk. I have "settled" on...
What are the chances of finding another "once in a lifetime" buck in my spotting scope in the same year?
Found an absolute beast on Friday. Wide, deep, heavy, trash. He had it all. Found him opening morning, moved to within 600 yards and waited for him to top the next ridge....When he...
I have been doing research sence I got the tag and just thought I would ask any of you Hunt talkers if you had info for me. I have talked to past hunters in this unit as well as leaving a message for the biologist.
I will probably be hunting this solo, but am in good shape (mid 30's) and will...
