I'm not tracking what you guys are saying about adequate clearance. I have a 2014 2500 ram, no lift. I'm thinking i would have enough clearance but no idea if I've got it right or not...would I need these spacers you guys are mentioning?
...function is your friend; That being said I’m guessing you’re not use to the mountains. I’ll start. Boots will make or brake your hunt. Tirechains, even if you’re just going to a high country trail head, Shovel. Ive only hunted Colorado a couple of times, spend most of my time in Oregon and...
I have the v-bars style as well. You can easily look up actual chain on a site such as this … TireChains-Best Snow Chains-TireChains.com.
I have yet to use mine, but they are with me whenever I head west. Just be careful that you have adequate clearance. I have to use wheel spacers to get the...
I am buying a new set of A/T tires for my new to me Tacoma. I am honestly surprised at how hard it is for me to decide which tire to buy.
My questions are:
1. How much of a difference in ride quality am I going to see between a load range D and a load range E, all other things being equal...
Any mountain hunt we have a chain saw and pull chain, in the truck.
We will mostly carry it on the 4wheelers too.
Also, shovel, tirechains, and Energy Recovery too.
I wouldn't think the extra sidewall height would be an issue for chains. Its only a bit more than a centimeter. But I could be wrong. Sometimes the bag the chains came in will list the tire sizes they will fit.
I've had the truck for 2 years now and really like it. I am in need of tirechains for both front and rear. I started researching chains and immediately starting reading about lack of clearance for chains. I looked at my truck to verify this, and sure enough, clearance is an issue both front and...
Yup, it looks good. Cams and tensioner combo should ensure a tight fit. The way to tell if they are on in the right direction is that the open end of the hooks on the traction chains should be facing outward (away from the tire sidewall) where they connect to the tensioner chain.
Ah... far cheaper and lighter than chains. I will have to try and figure out how to accomplish this. For some reason, I can't picture how to attach the 2x to the tire.
...been stranded for a day or two in the area we were hunting. I never forget the chainsaw now, even if I'm hunting antelope lol.
As far as tirechains, make sure you get a spider bungie for them. I ended up needing mine in the Missouri Breaks after waking up to some snow turned mud after truck...
FWIW there may not even be enough room for chains up front even with a lift. You may also need to change the spacing (wheel offset) to push the wheel/tire away from steering and suspension components.
I have a 2wd ram 1500. Haven't gotten stuck, but getting up places like Berthoud pass in the winter can be quite puckering at times. Im not getting a new truck anytime soon, so upgrading to a 4wd is off the table. Would you get good AT tires like a KO2, studded tires, or just carry chains and...
Chains on tires aren't exactly savers in mud. Their main help is with traction in snow and ice. Yes it does help in mud a bit as in mud your tire threads get caked shut and the chains will give you something for grip but even the chains can build up with mud.
Basically if there is a road...
Some of these posts also bring up great points about what IS NOT being passed along through the generations. I raised three daughters by myself since their preteens; each of them has thanked me over the years for teaching them such simple things as checking their oil, changing a tire, putting on...
Hey thank you, this is great advice. I generally keep a lot of this stuff in my car in winter anyway, so just adding a few more things that you've mentioned will round out my gear needs I think. I've got a game cart that I'll bring, so I can def get an animal to my car and field dress it on my...
From a pure investment standpoint, I don't want to invest in something where I am spending 30% of the bike's MSRP doing routine maintenance like replacing cables, housing, and chains. If I were buying a new bike, I would look for something with a 1x crankset, good tire clearance for + tire...
