    Self defense pistol recommendations.

Walther P99. 9mm. TruGlow tritium sights. Store with a 2nd magazine for home use but only carry with the one magazine. Early generation of the P99 so has the non-standard rail thus did not modify for installing a laser as had strong preference for a particular holster brand for carry which would...

    Wife watches

I wear an iWatch which syncs to my iPhone. Settings control if audible clicks and screen brightness. I do not need a watch to tell the time as my iPhone is with me. Why wear it? Tracks multiple health-related data points as is a wearable health monitor and exercise tracker so alerts me if I have...

Is chasing Wyoming permits worth it?

As is usually the case with hunting, these are the good old days when 20 more years have passed. Seriously, if you think access to quality habitat with public land access will not decline, non-resident quotas for big game will not fall and non-resident big game applications/tags/licenses will...

Can anyone school me on blue grouse and chukar?

I expanded how cold I can handle while sleeping in an unheated tent by wearing a stocking cap that fully covers my ears, a fleece neck gaiter and an eye sleep mask. Have worn wool socks. Opened a disposable hand warmer and placed it next to the gaiter so not on my skin. The sleeping bag and the...

    R.i.P. Tom Skerritt

I lived in Los Angeles for a few years after Top Gun had been a hit movie. I could walk two blocks from my apartment to a family-run, very small Italian restaurant where grandma made the fresh pasta. Must have been a favorite place for Tom Skerritt as I would bump into him several times a year...

    Trying new rifles this season

Appreciate all you have done and is obvious a lot of sacrifice takes place by you and the family. If hard decisions need made, no pushback from me with changes. HuntTalk has been free to use and I do not fight through pop-ups and giving up screen real estate for footer and header ads. That has...

    Audiobooks/Podcasts for Long Drive

My local library supports online reserving of digital media. I search for the digital books which are audio books. Was a bit of a learning curve on how to download to store on my iphone then play though my vehicle's radio speakers. I used to buy Books on CDs and play in my CD player during...

    "Super Range"

All hat, no cattle. Have champagne on ice. Mortality and obesity go together like bacon and eggs. Tick tock, let the market manipulations stop. History will not be kind as this era is seen in the rear view mirror. The pile of blanket, wide-spread Presidential Pardons which will be issued to...

What are you guys paying for gas?

My hunting rig uses fuel. I recall threads here when reloading supplies went up quickly a few years ago and those supplies were hard to find at any price. Fuel is way, way up since St. Patty's Day. And so is fertilizer so someone smarter than me needs to actually explain how some refinery...

So, how is the retirement gig?

Congrats! Best wishes for you to have many years of go-go energy level left before slow-go starts and. God forbid, no-go arrives with the autumn winds. I have kept a hunt/fish/snorkel recap of each adventure starting before exited my high school era. I grab one of the several filled diary books...

    Montana Moose 2026 success story!

Nicely done! Great pictures. Thanks for sharing.

    Oversold flights

Fully refundable tickets create some of the challenges that lead to overbooking resulting in a ticketed passenger with a boarding pass getting bump down in seat class or back into the terminal as their "plane" backs away from the gate. Not much fun when need to get somewhere on a tight schedule...

    American prairie. What's the issue?

Of all the pricing and cost pressures on cattle ranchers the past decade and the next decade, American Prairie is not moving the needle. Is instead something to dog whistle at to make ranchers feel like the boogie man is over there running bison. $6 diesel is a bigger issue but good luck getting...

    Creepy album covers

Lawsuit by the "baby" tossed out "with prejudice" 9/30/2025. The lawsuit was undermined when discovered the plaintiff (baby) has the cover shot now as a chest tattoo, will reenact the photo for a fee, and his parents were at the original album cover shoot which was shot by a friend of the family.

10 days anywhere in the world...

Swiss Alps for natural beauty since you frame the window of travel as early summer. Can still be chilly up there in summer but a lot of hours from sunrise to sunset to explore. Second choice would be Greek Isles as will be warm enough to swim and lots of history to explore before the summer's...

What are you guys paying for gas?

Still too cheap. $10 per gallon is fair for a few winters as sacrifices are what generations of Americans do in times of not-war. Can’t believe how many people mismanage their spending priorities. Is not that hard to kick in a bit more at the pump for all the greatness bathing us like a glorious...

Bots and Colorado tag reissue list

And, any landowner tag burns points and raffle and auction. You hunt a tag, you lose points. Point creep ends for you when get a tag in your hand. Have cow elk tag as its own point bucket if want. But, points to zero if get a tag.

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

if 25bp then market falls by end of day. Reason? Not likely more hikes are not needed and slowing inflation is going to take a larger increment and more of them. If raises a full 100bp then I expect the market to jump by end of day. If 50 bp then about flat by end of day. I have no bets in...

    Ruger #1 crack

Have you shot this rifle since was given to you? Do you plan to shoot the rifle? The crack seems to be emerging at an angle appearing at the surface along a wavy seam in the grain rather than a shock crack which would arise by, for example, being dropped on the butt plate. Might be able to...

    Withdrawal calculator

Am on Medicare. I am on traditional (PPO-like) rather than Advantage (HMO-like). My spouse and I are both on Medicare. I budget a combined $25,000 a year for health coverage (doctors. hospitalization, ER, urgent care, Rx premium/deductible/co-pay/uncovered), dental and vision). Life has been...
