    Chainsaw experts…..

Historically, I mean for the last 25 years, when it gets good and warm, like after 20-30 minutes of cutting, it tries to die, you can feather the throttle for another 10-15 minutes but then when it dies it's done until it's cold. It was getting worse this fall, less than 5 minutes before it...

I'm about ready to give my Stihl away. It's a lemon through and through.

Holy cow did I enjoy this one. Should be mandatory reading for anyone interested in conservation. I'll be getting the rest of his writings.

Am I crazy or would you agree... solitude v success

To a point... I have gone entire seasons, back to back even, in the Great Deer Desert of Chelan County without seeing a deer of any kind, and that has reduced my desire to hunt to the point where I effectively didn't this year. Yet I've never seen another hunter in the field.

    Restoring color to Antlers

Ok so I tried your method but after letting the dirt paste stay on for almost 2 weeks my green fir sticks rubbed too much off. It doesn't appear to have stained them or adhered to the antlers much at all. I'm grinding my dirt finer and trying again with more pitch and oil. Does it ever come...

    Mule Deer Annual Patterns

I can tell you places that don't have mule deer in Oct also don't have mule deer the following Oct, or the following... Or the following.

Hey Montanans, here's a good reason to hate WA

https://washingtonstatestandard.com/2026/10/16/repub/puget-sound-energy-announces-development-of-new-solar-project/ WA is all for "green" energy, but PSE is building this in MT because it would never be approved in WA.

ADHD- Long overdue to deal with it

Jeezus... Way too much to process here. I've been trying to wrap up a drywell patch for a month, but I'm on my phone reading this. I was pretty resigned to this being "my" normal. Maybe I need to rethink that

Metal Detectors for finding shot in upland birds

So I picked up a Garrett look alike off Amazon and it had both false positives and false negatives in the first batch. Totally not worth it

It's actually not nearly as overwhelming as you think. But I also know no amount of links will change your religion.

    Wildfire management LTTE

I'll just leave this here. CC is as much a religion as anything. Is it happening, yes, is it the cause of all ills and all hot/warm temperature anomalies, no. https://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2026/08/do-i-believe-in-global-warming.html?m=1 We had our first frost this weekend. That's late but...

    Wildfire management LTTE

Because 0.5F hotter doesn't make a measurable difference. CC has simply become a catch all for any and all issues. When was the last time "weather" was blamed for anything? When "weather" is what actually has the wild fluctuations. There's no doubt in my mind that if the Columbus Day storm had...

    2026-2027 Upland Bird Thread

Well my son is primed full of bloodlust. So after a day and a half of fall chores in preparation for winter, we grabbed a couple of shotties, his rifle (to get a bit more practice), and a chainsaw (still need some more firewood), and headed out for grouse. The one thing about this kid is that...
