    Model 7 Feeding Issue

on model 7/700s I’ve seen the mag box get installed upside down when someone took the gun apart to replace a trigger or bed the action and reassembled it. It will force the cartridge up over the feed ramp at an angle and hang up on the top of the bolt lug recess. But it would be stiff to cycle...

    No wait on Suppresso’s?

I’m biased as I am a machinist for a company that makes suppressors so I have them on all my guns. While there are some heavy cans out there you can get titanium suppressors in the 5-12ounce range. Depending on length and design. There are companies now starting to design longer suppressors that...

    Threading and chopping a barrel?

That was an average loss over 20 shots. It was in a short barreled (20”) 26 nosler I had. The groups started opening up and needed a rebarrel so I chopped it and threaded it to experiment and use up some reloads before I rebarreled it to 7prc. So yes it was an extreme example on an highly...

    Threading and chopping a barrel?

I’ve compared velocities before on a barrel before and after chopping but my numbers Sunday I just needed to get velocities for some dope cards for a couple new hunting rifles so I my comparison was based off the box “factory” rating. Based on previous testing using handloads I have generally...

    Caribou Velvet Preservation

I’m you can inject them with basically basically formaldehyde. But it is typically best done before antlers are frozen because it needs to flow through the veins and replace the blood under the velvet. Once frozen it can lead to mixed results. And the chemicals can make the velvet appearance...

What should i get? What shells are good to?

A good dove shoot is high volume so personally I typically get the cheapest 7.5 shot I can find and I’ve never had a problem. As for good shotguns under $500 I’d look at a mossberg 500. You could get the mossberg maverick 88 which is a dressed down mossberg 500 for half the price. I wouldn’t...

    Threading and chopping a barrel?

I’ve personally threaded hundreds of barrels, specifically for suppressor use. And while 1/2x28 threads can technically be used on a .30 cal, the minor diameter of the threads will cut to ~.450”. That leaves about .070” wall thickness between the bottom of the threads and the bore. When you...

    WPG Pup $$$?

There is a high quality griffon breeder about 30 minutes from our house and we seriously considered picking one up but after a lot of research we decided to go with a GWP. The griffons were priced at 1800 for male and 2000 for females. They are navhpa trained and certified parents. I have 2...

my younger brother wants to use a 410 for turkeys next spring are they enough?

Like others said a .410 with tss is plenty for turkeys. Actually 3” .410 tss #9s have about 300 pellets and #9 will kill quite farther than you should ethically shoot at a turkey head.

    Bow hunting 101

A GOOD shop is paramount. A lot of shop will measure your wingspan setup the bow shoot it through paper and hand it to you and say good luck. I’d research shops in your area and try to find one with a legit certified archery coach on staff that you can pay for lessons. Schedule a few lessons and...

Where to find Eurasian Collared Doves in Colorado?

Again if you go to page 10 underneath eurasians it has a note saying they are invasive and to reference page 7. Page 7 says you can hunt invasive species by any method of take legal for small game or big game (which means air guns are legal). Your way over complicating it. If you don’t trust a...

Where to find Eurasian Collared Doves in Colorado?

Eurasian doves can be shot with pellet guns. They are considered an invasive species by the cpw. No license needed (just a hunters safety card) and pretty much any method your heart desires. You can even hunt them at night with a spotlight if you want. Look at the small game brochure on the...

Considering Lifting for Function v. Form

A lift won’t get you more clearance for ruts and rocks. It gives you the ability to get larger tires. And if you go from your tires to 35s your not gaining enough clearance to make hardly any difference. So if spending a good amount of money to gain an inch in clearance is worth it then by all...

    Colorado Jacks

Walking the brushy areas of Pawnee grasslands and you’ll kick up more than you’ll want to shoot. I often walk with my shotgun and keep my .22 on my back. if I kick up a rabbit too far out I’ll watch where he goes then often I’ll be able to sneak over and pop it with my .22 as he’s sitting in the...

How did you learn/resources for processing your own game.

My dads family growing up didn’t have the luxury of taking game to a processor so they had all the equipment and did it themselves. So when I was old enough to handle a knife (7 or 8) I would join in after hunts and help break everything down and process animals after my dad and brothers got...

    Weapon for mnt lion hunt?

I haven’t been lion hunting but a few years ago a guy brought in a huge lion to the shop. It weighed a touch over 200lbs on a certified postal scale and it had 8 .357 bullets in it. I’d recommend a lever action. When the day comes for me to go I’ll be bringing my lever action 45-70

    Pup choices

I have a black lab for waterfowl but we will be picking up a German wirehair in 2 weeks. The parents are fantastic upland and duck dogs so the new pup will be pulling double duty so the lab can retire.
