    I have never killed a good buck in sw Mt before Veterans day but I suspect that is because they have to get dumbed down some before I can kill them. I have known where a few were before then but couldn't match wits with them in the timber.

    These days most residents I know now eat elk and rarely kill a mule deer, myself included. That has changed in the last 20 years. The last several years I have had about as many opportunities to kill a bull elk as I have had to kill a buck mule deer in the areas that I hunt in SW MT.

    If you have 10 hunters hunting 2 legal or desirable animals and you reduce the hunters by half it is very possible that harvest won't be reduced. If you change season dates to where animals are less vulnerable, harvest will likely be reduced.

    When I lived in AK back in the 90s residents got 5 days of moose season before nonresidents started. They also had mandatory reporting. I am not sure if it is still that way.
