    Solo Hunting Tips

Not any one place in particular just asking what tips those that go solo on trips on trips out west do regarding logistics, financials, etc. I live in the east so it's not a jump in the truck after work and drive a few hours and I'm where I want to be kind of thing. Mainly colorado and in the...

    New Bolt Action Rifle Recommendations

I would get a tikka or if you’re like me when I go to the local gun store, I keep eye balling a Win Model 70 extreme weather in 6.5 prc that keeps jumping out to me on the used rack for $1,300 which is a deal in my opinion.

    Solo Hunting Tips

Good advice, thanks for the input. I train throughout the year for the same reasons and usually do a loaded pack hike a few times a month and as it gets closer to season, I increase the frequency of those and usually do 12 mile loop with a loaded pack a month or two out from a trip. I tend to be...

    Solo Hunting Tips

That is a genius plan. I keep a little notebook every year for hunting, essentially a hunting journal but didn't think of doing this.

    Solo Hunting Tips

I'm from WV. I'm usually drinking anywhere from 2-4 liters a day depending on what I'm doing. I have a zoleo that I purchased following my first trip out west, along with basic survival supplies, med kit and a compass.

    Solo Hunting Tips

I have been out west once, we got into some elk just not a legal one. I feel like I learned more from that trip than I have in any other hunting trip I''ve ever gone on.

    Solo Hunting Tips

I was referring to the packout part for mule deer and whitetail hunting not in general as I've never hunted mule deer.

    Solo Hunting Tips

I do enjoy hunting by myself but the cross country trip is the part that I have no experience with. I'm not too worried with gear. I have most of the basic stuff and it's not all one brand specific either. I have the personal locater beacon, tent, rifle with good glass, experience hunting and...

    Solo Hunting Tips

How far in advance do you start saving for the trip (tag, fuel, extra unexpected expense, etc)? I feel like if I go every other year, I have pretty much two years in between to save and have set aside for tag, fuel, etc. I have been planning on paying for the tag prior to the hunt, in my case...

    Solo Hunting Tips

For those that solo hunt. What are the biggest challenges you face going out of state for a hunt? Just looking into seeing what others do for their out of state hunts. I hunt solo at home and hunt with my oldest two kids but nothing more than that. I primarily would be out of state hunting in...

    New Bolt Action Rifle Recommendations

$1,000 for the whole setup or just the rifle? I've heard nothing but good things about tikka, grew up on winchester model 70, rem 700 and marlin. Having said that I traded in a Weatherby Vanguard that wouldn't hold groups for a Seekins PH2 in 7mm Rem Mag and it was well worth it.

    Rifle Caliber Recommendation - 270/308/30-06

Get the caliber/rifle you shoot the best. Any of those calibers would be good as long as you are proficient with it.

    Boot delima

Zamberlans have served me well. I've had no issues with them. I also have a pair gore tex light weight Salewa boots that are like slippers in my opinion.

    Shoot farther!

If your training is more difficult than what you may see in the moment, you will be better prepared and more proficient. With that being said shooting at an animal you are trying to recover for food and to ethically harvest it at the same time is different than shooting a target at extended...

    Tactical pants for hunting

If you can find a pair on ebay or amazon, the knock off dri fire pants are pretty nice. I have a pair of Sitka Timberline, Born Primitive Op assault pants and numerous other hiking pants that I interchange. CQR is also a decent brand off of amazon that I have used. I usually use the sitka pants...

Talk me out of a Leupold SX-4 15-45x65

Just recently bought a SX4 15-45x65 myself and I consider it money well spent. I believe I spent under $500. I also have a pair of BX4 10x42 binos that are pretty clear and an upgrade over my vortex diamondbacks I used to use. If you check on Eurooptic, you can find them for way less than MSRP...

    Ukraine / Russia

It's also hard to know who to believe in this day and age of the news being posted on a social media platform or main stream media site. I try to not watch the news and the only time I usually do is when there is something going on with the military and military operations. If you do some...

    Colorado bull elk GMU 22

I don't live there either so it feels overwhelming to go hunting in a different place that you may have never seen before in person. My first time was in 2024 and we didn't come home with anything to fill the freezer but the information and experience we gained was worth it. I'm not familiar...

Hopefully it does not. Whether or not people choose to notice or sweep it under the rug remains to be seen.
