Headed to Charlotte NC in August. Going coast to coast means morning departures and evening arrival. Since I'm not a Bloody Mary aficionado, the hotel bar will feel my wrath.....

    Horseback hunting

Then you will be involved more than an average guided hunter. If you can spend time riding your brothers horses before the hunt it will help all involved be better prepared. Enjoy all the things that go into it. it is a lot like hound hunting in the amount of year round activity and prep with...

    Horseback hunting

Go trail riding with your horse contacts as often as you can. To me any less than an hour is a waste of time unless I'm schooling a young horse. Repetition is more important than duration in terms of "getting in riding shape" Best practices to prepare for Horseback hunting: Figure out what...

Hunting Medium This Fall (Hunting Hard Pending)

On the meds, I found when my partner had a Hip replacement that staying ahead of the pain curve was important. a written pill plan with times and cell phone alarms was key. You are probably well past that point by now. One thing i learned though is a combo of Ibuprofen and Tylenol either...

Alaknak tent Side poles- how to make them collapsible?

Well I did it. Getting the math right so the broken down poles were equal distance took me one sacrifice pole. Turns out I needed to add 1/4 of the sleeve length to the other end halfway measurement. For my poles it ended up being 26.5 inches. The poles seemed to be just 1/2 inch emt. I used...

Alaknak tent Side poles- how to make them collapsible?

I could see an annual Elk Camp with pre made wall tent poles. This is pretty common in places I've been. I've ordered extra side poles from Cabelas to experiment on. Tried JB weld, long nuts and a short section of threaded rod and was not happy.

    Vacation ideas

Kids won't learn to travel unless you take them. There are a few things you can do to make it more tolerable.... 1) Plan one activity per day. And take as much time doing it as they want. Anything else is a spur of the moment decision 2) Make them an active part of the planning (or feel like...

Alaknak tent Side poles- how to make them collapsible?

The outside dimension is .70 on the poles and I think the ID on 3/4 emt is .75-.80. I’ve heard suggestions to put shrink wrap over the smaller piece as a shim. I’ll try one piece before I commit to more.

Alaknak tent Side poles- how to make them collapsible?

what size tubing do you have NHY? check this YT page out for ideas https://www.youtube.com/@MakerPipe In my case the sidewall poles are mainly to keep the walls rigid but the corners DO have more tension on them . Perhaps Oi will mark those and make the collar sleeve longer on those 4...

Alaknak tent Side poles- how to make them collapsible?

As I prepare my camp for packing in on horseback, I'm evaluating how to make things more packable. One aspect that I am looking to improve is making the side wall poles for my Alaknak 12x12 tent more compact for pack horse travel. I've noticed that the poles fit inside a 3/4" pvc pipe so I am...

What are your 2026 Outdoor Plans

Most of my outdoor plans are centered around my 3 yo mustang filly. For the spring and summer that means gathering and branding cattle and a couple organized and possibly some spur of the moment trail rides. I want to teach her good habits while her mind is pliable. Last year’s good fortune...
