Had just moved into a new house that backed up to woods and a gully that drained into a local reservoir. We’d moved some outdoor stuff over prior to moving in, and it was sitting at the edge of where the newly seeded yard met the woods. A few weeks after moving in, my wife wanted to start...
Stop by a local farm and ask if you can trap/catch them. It's pretty easy to do at night.
If closer I would help you but I shoot them since they make a terrible mess in my barn.

My childhood’s friend was a USMC machine gunner at Iwo. He would reenact with his hands in front while in his belly. He would have us run at him doing bonsai charges then we would fall down around him! “Chili Dog” was proud to have carried out his assigned duties during combat.
My high school...
everyone think about dog trainers for a minute, their job is put dogs on birds. point , hold and retreive them, the guy with 57 dogs. how many birds does he shoot, but, how many covies does he wipeout completely,
they have the time to cover every accesible piece of land, mark every covey of huns...
Agreed- there's a lot of training material on YT. Seems there's a thousand ways to skin this cat, and I need to figure out the best commands for myself and my future wife, as well as her corgi that occasionally listens. I'd prefer a softer approach, given the side effects I've seen of botched...
I leave tomorrow for a week long trip to ND to chase sharptails and ducks with some really good friends. I’ve been looking forward to this trip since I was in ND last September chasing sharpies. But first I need to cover some sad business.
After many years of wanting, I brought my first bird...
My puppy training continues. I noticed Friday that Dot’s pads were torn. She was hiding the injury. I dug around my dog box and found boots for her. I can’t hunt next weekend. She needed the field experience.
I decided to hunt a C tier area instead of driving to my better areas. In...
It is. It's just something I built out of scrap wood I had in the barn. I use it for steadiness, whoa, and other training. I picked up a few wood spoons from electric company in town and use those with the ladder. Turn those on its side and the ladder can serve as a teeter totter as he...
Are you referring to sharpness on fur? They are, and per breed standards it’s expected. That said, I haven’t seen a huge difference between the German dogs and GSP/GWP and even some Brittanies.
I’ve judged a fair number of dogs and it’s entirely reasonable for a first time dog handler to have...
ditto what these guys have already said^
about 1.5 yrs back the wife had to get dogs again so I made her at least get dogs that can hunt, I'm learning as much as they are on dog temperament and training, what works and what doesn't. books, youtube videos, and advice from other hunters.
my...
If you already have 2 dogs I wouldn’t hire the dogs. I would also talk to the two people bringing dogs and make sure they are ok hunting together. Just easier to know expectations ahead. If someone is training a pointer you don’t want the lab busting in to flush without command.
I remember...
So, I run my dogs every day all year. I'm going to try roading them on a gravel roads next summer. Hopefully that will improve their foot endurance. Are you able to hunt without boots at all?
I started e-collar training at about 6.5 months but only used vibrate. I really worked on retrieving training, whoa training, and recall before I even thought about the e-collar. When those fundamentals were set, then I started with place training and heeling. At 5 months, Penny, our Griff...
