I live out west. I have an older Remington 700 BDL that I eventually dropped in a CDL stock. It has taken every big game animal I’ve shot, except for my first whitetail last year in Virginia. It’s also responsible for my son’s first three mule deer. Every animal, to include elk, has only...
You are out east. If hunting mostly deer and maybe an occasional elk, the 7mm-08 is your huckleberry. Heck, it will take black bear and moose with heavier bullets. It is nearly the perfect round, but a 280 Ackley may be more perfecter.
I have no problem finding 7mm-08 ammo.
I’ve mounted Trijicon Accupoints on two rifles, and think they are nearly the perfect scope for those who don’t dial. Both of these are 3-9x40’s with the green duplex. Light, bright, very clear, robust, repeatable, hold zero, and that wonderful green dot. Anyone else a fan? They do so much so...
Your stock turned out great! I recently bought this same stock, a ‘second’, from Stockey’s off of eBay, for a Wby Vanguard.

So, let’s get vulnerable amongst friends. Several years ago I was stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA. Our battalion loaded up for an FTX and convoyed to the Yakima Firing Range in central WA. After the several hour drive, and all the time it took to set up, I URGENTLY needed to take a dump.
The...
I should qualify my post above. These are groups with a load the rifle likes, and I don’t handload. I had to try several loads. Other loads were just okay—1.25”-1.5” groups. I was hoping for a 140 grain load that shot great, but haven’t found it yet. It can get expensive finding what your rifle...
