About every two years I draw an antler-less elk tag for the tall grass prairie, which is rolling with some deep canyons on the fringe.
WIND JUST RULES!. Some bursts can make it hard to stay standing. Now and then, there are calm moments.
Some years ago, I bought a Kimber hunter in 280AI. It...
I shot my doe antelope at 114. She didn’t go 20…. I’d had multiple shots at <45. One of them, as soon as I hit the release the goat whirled and it paralleled his body at like 25 yards… I was so upset at such a slam dunk MISS. Idk what possessed me to take the shot but I felt good, and it was...
32 did ok in bad winter. He can find a doe if they want to hunt it. Was just in that area a week ago, antelope are there.
Good area to hunt that doe then go fishing nearby.
I returned to the area I had seen the big buck the night before the season opened, hoping to re-locate them and make a plan for opening morning. Of course, after several hours of looking I was unable to find them. Finally, on a hunch, I picked up and drove to a distant vantage to look out onto...
What an incredible experience to share with your daughter. Sounds like this experience certainly shaped the hunter that she will become. Great work dad!
Curious what made you settle on extra light arrows at 310+fps? I know that was a fad in the early 2000’s, you just don’t see a lot of guys doing it anymore. Has worked well for you.
Personally I have a limit of 400m +-. This is NOT based on my shooting ability or my equipment. I shoot quite a bit with work and have been blessed by the lords of discount/freebies to have nicer equipment than I could have hoped for. I will shoot targets out as far as the range I am at...
I do specifically for antelope. Last two of the three years I've drawn my antelope doe tags. Went unfilled by choice both years. Whitetails are a different story.
With the winter kill that is going to be a very difficult tag to fill. If you were already going I would give it a few days, otherwise I wouldn’t. I used to hunt there and I don’t bother applying anymore.
That may be best donated this year.
Hunted south side of the mountains from 115 in what has been a good unit and numbers are down considerably. Buck to doe ratio was very low seeing a lot of groups of 12-15 does without a buck and not seeing more than one buck in any group. We hunted hard and put a tag on a nice buck, but it was...
2023 - All boneless and completely trimmed
Cow Elk - 100 pounds - lost estimated 15 points to broadhead carnage on hind quarter
3 doe antelope - 16 pounds (real old and looked like she was deteriorating), 18 pounds (young), and 23 pounds (beautiful)
Mule Deer Doe - 35 pounds
I must trim with...
Got a FWP call yesterday while at lunch.
I had to laugh since I used an e-tag for my pronghorn b tag.
"Did you hunt antelope this year?" yes
"Did you harvest a pronghorn?" yes
"How many days did you hunt?" one
"Your district was xxx, did you hunt in this district?" yes
"You had an antelope b...
A couple things, Antelope hunting is just about the easiest western hunt. Influencers pumped the hell out of it and now everyone wants to do it. Maybe reach out to these people making a living on the backs of these animals and ask them to stop making how to apply, how to glass, my antelope...
I added on a pronghorn tag to my Wyoming elk hunt based on the late draw results of the Montana antelope draw. Based on the number of tags, I figured this would be a perfect "typical" western antelope hunt and decided to have my kids (6yo son, 8yo daughter) experience it as their first western...
I had a pretty disappointing big game draw season from January through May. I applied for plenty of tags with reasonable odds, but just didn't turn much up. By the time June rolled around, I had one tag with a two-day season in December, as well as a difficult second choice archery deer tag in...
Hey rj,
16 years straight for my buddies from AZ on pronghorn buck tags, at least 25-30 doe tags each as well.
Not enough opportunity?
