My daughter’s first deer. About a 45 yard walking shot from a ladder stand dropped him(nub). She intends on elk hunting next year.
Did most of the trimming and grinding herself.
Wife’s first bull. We locked my binos on where he fell in tripod. She could see me in the binos. I smelled him before I saw him. I had to use a saw to clear space for us to quarter him and take pics.
She has a 6.5 creed with factory Hornady eldx. Vortex Razor LHT 3-15
I have a 6.5 PRC with reloads shooting the 143 ELDx. Vortex Razor LHT 4.5-22
My cow tag wasn’t good for that spot so she carried my PRC and killed the bull with it. She was encouraging me to by another rifle, so I think I...
I think I have taken almost 20 people on their first mountain hunt. We used to drive straight thru to camp. After lots of experiences with altitude sickness, I always pick a spot about 1/2 way in elevation to spend the night on the drive out (we are at about 900ft ASL at home)
Ft Morgan...
It was farther than any elk I have killed.
However, She has had the opportunity to practice out to 600 from multiple field positions. I would have put her range at 400 but since we were able to be calm and dry fire on cows for like 3 hours before he stood up, I had confidence in her.
I’ve been going “Out West” from Wisconsin since I was 12 years old. I honestly don’t even hunt back home because private lands and tree stands just don’t tickle me.
In 2022, I shot a really nice bull in a very hard to draw unit in Wyoming. After I got home, I was talking to my kids about when...
Reality is that there are too many variables to have a set distance limit. There are 800yd shots I would take and 50yd shots I wouldn’t. It comes down to having the experience to know which one that particular shot is.
Pretty funny to be planning next season when this season isnt closed yet. But, I’ve done all my trips for the year so what else am I supposed to do.
My wife has never hunted and has decided she wants to try it next year. I have to burn my Montana points next year and she bought one this year...
I would spend a Lot of it on ensuring that I can remain active well into old age. I would hire a chef/nutritionist and a physical therapist/trainer.
I would then spend a lot of my time acquiring skills to be as self sufficient as possible.. welding, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, gardening, stock...
It wasn’t terrible. I took the two hinds off and gutted it. That made it light enough for me to flip it over and grab some pics. Just cropped them so you couldn’t see the missing back.
Hey all,
New guy from WI here. My first big game animal ever was an Antelope when I was 12. A guy my dad worked with brought us to eastern WY on a hunt and I’ve been hooked on “out west”. That was bad when you had to mail in for an application book and there was no internet. Honestly, it...
My wife, who has never hunted, wants to go west and shoot something… she doesn’t care what state or species. I think our 3 options are MT Big game combo(I need to spend my points anyway), CO OTC or low draw tag or I probably have enough WY deer points to draw a general tag on a party app...
