    Waterfowl, let’s see them!

Went back to the pintail spot hoping to shoot better but didn't. Had a chance to get the new pintail limit (3) but missed several and was lucky to get 2. Also missed my only shot at a mallard. Widgeon were decoying well so I took it out on them, and even got a banded one (on the left). I...

    Waterfowl, let’s see them!

Pintails have been totally absent at the mighty Rio so today I went to the pintail spot. Got a nice one on a boat sneak, and after setting up in a cove I thought I would try for an all mallard and Pintail limit. I passed up dozens of shots at gadwalls, widgeon, and teal, and did get a mallard...

My Grinder Sucks - Grinder reviews

I have a 3/4 hp and it grinds as fast as I can supply the meat. Maybe if you had 2 people working a 1 HP is worth it The 3/4 HP is already pretty heavy so I'd consider that vs 1 HP.

    Waterfowl, let’s see them!

Still not big numbers around but hunting remains decent. Really slow start this morning but shot 5 between 9 and 11 o'clock, after seeing nothing before 9 AM. It was really looking like a skunk but turned out great.

AZ Elk anyone want to come along?

10-15 years ago, I might have been up for the adventure, but now I'm too old and fat. Good luck!

Which western states have been disproportionately good to you in drawing tags?

I've been playing the game a long time so I've been lucky in several states with multiple tags drawn in AZ, NV, CO, and WY. But I've drawn moose and goat in Montana so I guess I'll vote for them.

    As they lay

This picture popped up for "On This Day" in my archive from 2009. Obviously not a great "as they lay" result. Shot near sunset day before, hit liver, tracked to edge of a thicket, got dark, left him overnight. Found him right away next morning. Not having hunted much in farm country I...

    Crossing State lines & Euromounts

Yes, I'll boil it when I get home. Boiling on-site does not solve the brain issue, usually.

    Crossing State lines & Euromounts

I do this but use 6-7" piece of coat hanger wire with a bend at the end for my drill "bit". Basically you're trying to liquify the brain so it oozes out by gravity. I've never been checked but I hope if you can just show a good faith effort they won't give you trouble.

    Waterfowl, let’s see them!

Yeah the ducks on your strap are definitely pintails. I wouldn't rule out eclipse drakes based on the bill color and size of the bird(s), especially the one on the right. Sometimes hard to determine sex without examining internals. Anyway, almost always better eating than a gadwall.

    Waterfowl, let’s see them!

I also shot 2 gadwalls last Saturday just after LST 😃 And no other shots that morning, one of the slowest days of the year.

    Waterfowl, let’s see them!

I have no idea why the mallards showed up today, but mid-morning I decoyed 4 flocks of 10-15 birds each. About 15 minutes apart, just falling out of the sky. It's been very warm with no weather so I wasn't expecting that. Good thing I got a lot of chances because I was not shooting well. Big...
