Walleye trapping has picked up with the warm front.

    I'd bid on that

I’d like to see a trapping season. I think, with a big enough conibear, it should be very doable. I’d probably add some swivels to the cable, though.

I’ve used peat moss and put wax paper below the trap to keep the ground moisture from coming up into it. It works just “ok.” I’d like to try waxed dirt but never get around to making it in the summer.

How about an Eastern US hunting issue?

Getting back to the initial post, I’d bet the thrill of shooting as many deer as they can will soon fade. Dealing with 23 deer is a lot of work. My guess is that within a couple years it’ll be a thing of the past. They’ll get to spend more time hunting if they aren’t gutting and dragging deer...

How about an Eastern US hunting issue?

The neighboring farmer didn’t like our restored wetland, so he complained to the state. They paid to tile his field right up to the property line so that he doesn’t get his tractor tires muddy on about a 1/8th acre of his land. The tiling happened in September. I took the employee that oversaw...

How about an Eastern US hunting issue?

It’s crazy what is allowed. There are basically no wetlands left around here on private property. Everything has been drained. Now the farmers are going back and putting tile grids in to ensure absolutely no water is allowed to recharge our aquifers and to make sure as many nutrients as possible...

I was hunting in NM years ago and a pack of those things trotted down a dried creekbed. I thought I was in a Dr Seuss book for a minute.

How about an Eastern US hunting issue?

Exactly the question that popped into my head.

I strongly suspect it’s abused here as well. But, I can’t control what others do, only what I do. If my kids want to join me, I’ll let them tag some critters. When they are old enough, they’ll also set their own traps. But, I’m not letting my 6 year old get close to a 330, or go in open water...

I’ll let them tag it if they are actively out with me helping check the traps. Otherwise, I tag it. In MN a licensed trapper can check/tend traps for another licensed trapper. Both of my kids have lifetime licenses and have their otter tags. They also have to make the trip to register their...

Well below zero this morning, but my daughter wanted to join me checking traps. She was rewarded with an otter and is super excited that she gets to put her own tag on this one.

    Hammer vs Barnes question???

I have no reason to try anything other than Barnes in my 270 WSM. It’s the only rifle I own, or plan to own. I’ve taken moose, elk, deer, antelope, wolves, grouse, and any number of other critters with the 140 tsx and 130 ttsx. They shoot very well and results are boringly consistent. Pencil...

    ‘25 Iowa whitetail

The only beer I could get my hands on in high school was Special Export Light. It tasted bad back then, I can’t imagine what it tastes like now.

I got a late start to the year but I’m finally on the board with something other than a skunk. Big male otter.

The 40 next to me in southern MN just went for $800k. Nothing special about it. Crappy ag land and decent, but not great, hunting. A neighbor bought it just because she didn’t want new neighbors building a house there.

    Spray foam

I’ve priced it out numerous times. The pros can always do it cheaper than I can buy the kits for.

I thought that said “SxSs struck!” Much different than stuck. I feel a lot better now.

Anyone have experience clearing snow with a tracked skid steer?

We use our tracked machine with a blower and wheeled machine with the snow bucket. The tracks do fine, but we don’t have any steep hills. I wouldn’t use the tracked one with the bucket, though.
