Gunnison basin help
Does anybody have any opions on how the deer are doing in unit 551 i have heard its been rough in the basin just wondering if this one has gotten beet up to. Looking at past years looks like they cant get a break.- brian flatlander

I've hunted the east side of 551 twice and have seen elk each time. I was hunting second season with an OTC tag so can't speak to crowds during the earlier season, but it wasn't real crowded and hiking a bit got you away from the majority of hunters. -

Where would you start to look for elk and preferably away from others. I not afraid of getting off the beaten path if it means good hunting. I was thinking about a scouting trip off of 114 near dome peak.
