  • I saw that you had an October hunt in unit 2b. Curious how it went? We are going up next week from Texas.

Appreciate it. Our plan is to hunt higher toward the border. Try a little west of the reservoir first, then farther East toward Jicarilla

Good luck. That would be my plan if I ever draw again. And I'll say it one more time, get as far off the road as you can. Find a locked gate get in deep and scout. If you can find a canyon with mud, you'll get good info on what's in there. My sense was they bed down up in the south facing cliffs and head into the canyon for water and feed at night. That said, I saw does feeding along game trails on the flats midday.

Appreciate the info. The points are where we are thinking about glassing from. Planning on checking it out the day and a half we have to scout before season opens. Seems to be less roads in that area farther east 1761929592899.png
Hey fella, I see you've hunted unit 49 before. I've hunted unit 45 a few times, unsuccessfully for mule deer, but that's because I didn't find the right one. well this year I decided to move a bit North and try out new territory. I drew an Archery tag for unit 49 Mule deer. Any insight on where to start? its a 16 hour drive for me and I've got 7 days to hunt.

Hi - I don't know if I can be of my help to you, I hunted elk/rifle along the rio chiquito. Mulies I saw were in thickets roadside by water or off a logging road. Get in away from roads and work logging roads-The farther the better. It can be really thick and brushy but there are open spaces and burn spaces that might work for an archery shot. Lots of road/ATV hunters. Good luck!

Thank you so much. I was planning to drive around and get a good lay of the land for a day or two and then take off on foot the area that i find best suited to hopefully hold a big buck. I have 10 days to hunt i can add a day or two more if i need to but hopefully i wont need to.
