    Trade or sell Components.

I have some .30-06 ammunition and once-fired brass that I’m not going to use. I’d like to sell all the ammunition as a single lot. I am in Bozeman and would be happy to hand off items in person to a local buyer and eliminate the shipping costs. Once-fired brass: 155 pieces Hornady: $65 +...

    Shotgun fitment

I wouldn't buy the lighter/cheaper gun without being certain the shims will get you where you need to go . . . fit is everything in a system without a rear sight. I'm with JLS about asking the gun shop to adjust the fit before making a decision.

    Sleeping in truck or tent

Are you planning to hunt in grizzly areas? If so, a topper gives you a LOT more lattitude with respect to food storage. I love mine, and it's nice to have for reasons other than truck camping anyway.

anyone here use 223 on hogs or deer?

I watched a hunting partner kill a decent-sized mulie with a 55 gr. TSX from a .223 a few years ago and was extremely impressed - the bullet passed through completely, both lungs were jelly, and the buck made it about 15 yards before tipping over. Pretty ideal.

    US Made Sleeping Bags

+1 on WM. My 20 degree bag is the only one I've ever owned with a truly conservative temperature rating . . . I've slept comfortably in that thing down to zero with long underwear and a beanie. Can't say enough good things.

Really cool! How are access and hunter pressure in that part of the world?

    Bird dog questions

As someone who's spent a lot of time following GSP's around eastern MT, I'd say they're a perfect choice for upland - you really couldn't do much better. I personally do not think they make good waterfowl dogs this far north though. Mine are great swimmers and love to retrieve, so jump-shooting...

    Montana Elkonomic$

This is a great point. I think the issue may be more about density than absolute numbers though - nobody's too concerned about NR hunters they don't run into! One concern about 143 is that it will create more incentive for landowners to lease hunting rights to outfitters, thereby reducing the...

    BLM Grazing Overhaul

This is SUCH a key point! Most of the issues people here are concerned about could be addressed pretty effectively through competitive bidding for grazing rights and a requirement that permitees follow the basic rules (AUM limits, staying current on fees, etc.). I have no idea how we could move...

    The Ranching Economy

This is absolutely correct, and cheap(er) food was probably an appropriate objective when we started down this road. Decades later, in a country where the USDA estimates 30-40% of the food supply is wasted and the CDC says over 42% of us are obese with another 31% overweight, it seems like a...
