Montana 2025 draws
My dad, my friend and me drew general tags. My dad will be 75 and this is our second mountain elk hunt together, first time in Montana. At this point every season hunting with pops is a gift. Can’t wait for September! Good luck everyone- Toban204

My dad and I are in together with 5 points each in the regular, and our hunting partner is in with 4 points in the special. So there are a few different potential outcomes for us. Hopefully it ends up with one that involves us hunting Wyoming this fall! Good luck all -

Thanks all for the advice and suggestions! Sounds like there are some decent places to stay and lots of good food options. Is there a bait and tackle shop in Casper we should hit to get set-up for trout fishing? Are there any really good hunting stores in Casper or elsewhere in NE Wyoming? -

Thanks. I’m in Canada and I’m fairly sure we can’t order guns or ammo from outside of Canada. I’m sure I can find other options from elsewhere in Canada if these Noslers don’t work out. -

Update: There weren’t many options at my local Cabela’s so went with Nosler Accubond in 140 gr. Hopefully the gun likes them! Still working on choosing/finding a scope and rings. -

To be honest I’ve never really thought about the lead-free options and don’t know a lot about the reasons why people choose them. I assume for environmental and health reasons, but are there other pros (or cons) to lead free bullets? -

Thanks all. Sounds like a relative consensus around 140 grains at least. I probably won’t go through that much ammo so I might try out some of the premium stuff like Nosler. I figure with potentially shooting an antelope at longer range and with using 7mm-08 on an elk I will want as much... -

Thanks. That brings me to another question I’ve been wondering about. As someone from the north with no dangerous snakes around, what should I know about snakes while hunting antelope and fishing around Casper? E.g. should we be wearing gaiters at all times, etc.?- Toban204
