    Rem 7400 Weathermaster: POI

Congrat finding a nice 760. I would shoot it and see how it performs. Try some 180's. Years ago, I heard people that own the 7400 have a smith to convert to 7600. This is because of the POI shifting issue. The 7600 is a good gun and the barrel is free floated.

What was your first big game rifle, and do you still have it?

Still have my first hunting rifle Remington 7400 in 30-06. Now, it is my favorite center firearm for target shooting after I fixed it. It will shoot 168 Amax, 168 and 175 Sierra HPBT. You can see the results here https://www.hunttalk.com/threads/rem-7400-weathermaster-poi.293484/.

To bbassi: for some reason, i couldn't reply to you. So, I will reply to you here. If you look at the pics from post #9, you will see the washer was inserted to the forearm screw. The washer will be in front of the gas port when you put it together. What happen is that as you are tightening...

    Rem 7400 Weathermaster: POI

I have a jug of Ramshot Big Game powder. So loaded up some Sierra 168 HPBT Match King, starting from 50 grains and .5 gr increments. They are 4 shots group. 51 gr. looks good, 3 are touching and I don't know what happened to the flyer. The second target are 3 4 shots groups. The top 2 are...

    Rem 7400 Weathermaster: POI

I went to the range today and retest the 7400. The gun is thoroughly cleaned with copper remover and Hoppes 9. The temperature was around 60 deg with 10 miles wind. I couldn't believe my eyes on the first 3 shots group. I waited one minute between each shot. At 100 yds, the groups were...

    Rem 7400 Weathermaster: POI

Finally have some cooler weather and time to test out the mod for my 7400. I shot over 60 rounds and the forearm screw did not come loose. The POI did not climb 10 inches up and down. The first 3 shots group at 50 yds was touching. During the test, I was checking the screw if it moved. It...

    Browning Abolt deal

It is not the same as Abolt or Abolt II. I have a Hunter. Abolt III is an entry level gun. Get a Salvage 110 at the same price range.

Here are the pics of the washer. I inserted the screw and pushed the washer on to the screw. I put a little crimp to the washer, so it won't fall off easily.

    Rem 7400 Weathermaster: POI

This is the latest update for my 7400. I removed the split washer initially when I added for the test. It didn’t work out as I expected it. The goal is to try not to apply any pressure to the barrel when tightening the forearm screw. Also, I try not to put any pressure for the forearm stock to...

    Rem 7400 Weathermaster: POI

Came back from the range today. I am not happy with this 7400. This gun does not like when the forearm screw is anything more than 10 in/lb. It will shoot less than an inch when the screw is just barely snug. Any pressure to the barrel, the POI changes. I will experiment with the forearm by...

Here is an article I found and it is very interesting. It does mention the forearm screw. https://www.leeroysramblings.com/Gun%20Articles/remington_7407427400_semiauto.html

I know this is an old thread. I have a 7400 in 30-06 from the 90's. I haven't shot it much because of the same problem when I bought it new. One of the remedy was to replace it with a Browning ABolt. The ABolt is amazingly accurate. Last year, I started reloading and took 7400 out to test some...
