Not that I'm trying to talk you out of it in any way, but just sure you read the fine print on those credit card offers if you're banking on that 15%. A lot of times those things either A. Don't apply to firearms or B. Are capped at a certain $ amount.
Sorry to be a downer
If I'm going on a once in a lifetime trip to Africa, I'm bringing a back up gun. So rebarrel, and get a new rifle that's something nice and reliable. That way you have your heirloom with you, and potentially a new heirloom as well that you have more faith in. Maybe even get the opportunity to...
Go with the screw in type for sure. Snap on's are junk and will come off in the brush. The ones with replaceable fiber optics are nice too if you ever break one or want to change colors. I think the rear bead is a matter of personal preference.
Never heard of them. I'm usually not one to gamble on "untested" companies. They may offer a great warranty and stuff now, but will they be around in 5 years?
Congrats! I got married in the Smokys not far outside of Maryville. Beautiful area for sure. I've only ever fished in the national park, but the trout fishing is good. The South Holston and Watauga rivers near Bristol are awesome tailwater trout rivers and probably only a couple hours away...
I break in most of my barrels. Not sure if it really helps or not, but I figure that it can't hurt. I probably wouldn't bother with some fancy hand lapped barrel unless manufacturer recommended it.
