He was not thrilled with the experience.
This picture shows what that broadhead did to the plumbing coming out of the top of his heart. Completely severed everything, then cut through an off side rib. Never found the bolt.
This is all great advice.
One of the most vivid memories from that hunt is glassing off a huge canyon rim before daylight, with the wind in my face, and having a serious conversation with myself on the topic of, "have I ever felt this cold before in my life?"
Crossbows are simple to learn.
If you want to try it, then try it.
I hunted with one for the first time this year and it was a blast.
I'd harvested animals with the three main weapon types and just wanted to try something different.
If I had the time and property I would really like to get into...
20 . . . . 17? 18? Somewhere in there.
From the people I know around there it hasn't changed much as far as quality since then.
But there is always a big buck in that country somewhere.
Would love to hunt it again, just for the scenery.
Lots of deer but just like anywhere else, exceptional bucks are very hard to find.
Here is buck I killed in that unit.
Looking back, I wish I hadn't passed on a 30-31" 3 point. You will see mature 3 points on that hunt.
Hope you find what you are after.
Hard not wonder what that buck would have been at 6 or 7 years of age.
And I say that knowing 99% of people don't pass on a buck like that.
Congrats and thanks for sharing.
Yeah . . . all you guys bitchin' on other threads about mule deer in Montana should probably stop posting all these great bucks if you want to remain believable.
Joking aside, there are some beautiful bucks on this thread!
When did Idaho start sending teeth out on moose to age them?
I killed mine in 2012 and the biologist came out to my truck, grabbed onto each side of the rack with his hands, turned his head back and forth, and said, "yeahhhhhh, that's 5 year old."
Alrighhttyy then . . .
I think it comes down to what you will use it for.
I have a 7mm-08 and a 7mm Rem Mag.
Both have their bright spots, with the 7mm-08 being way more fun to shoot off the bench.
