Sounds like you’re where you need to be. Hopefully checking wind all the time. Keep an eye on that bedding area from a distance, adjust your times and entry. Try coming in from a different way. They are there, but know you are too!! Be the cat not the mouse!! Good Luck, don’t get discouraged...
I agree that it can be confusing at times. The preference point thing is a real money maker! They are banking on continued demand over supply and people reacting to it!! as for the refund, I believe that the 80% is only if you are offered the combo and turn it down due to not getting a permit...
If you go up there, PM me. My folks live in the town just outside of the unit. I will be there in July and definitely would be willing to take a scouting trip. Archery is a great option!

I drew the 455-60 permit last year. Great hunt. A lot of elk hunters on horses, plenty of deer. I didn't see any mulies worthy of a general tag. I did harvest a nice WT and am very sure that there are much bigger in there. If you manage to draw the permit feel free to PM me and I will be happy...
Great topic for those that may be unsure about some of the regs. Anyone that is not familiar with the structure and is preparing to purchase an elk combination or big game combo, be sure to read the PERMIT details for each HD that you are attempting to apply. Keep in mind, there are quite a few...
It's funny that the elevation CDS question comes up, I just spoke to Leupold on Monday regarding the exact concern. The custom shop rep told be that it is accurate to +/- 2000ft of what ever elevation you give them.
Ok, I truly love this forum! As a bona fide HT troller, I must share an observation that I am sure many of you share, but just aren't nearly as bored to squint and type!!! I have noticed an uptick in negativity in posts primarily as they pertain to Elk hunting. Tags are too limited, elk are hard...
