I would go 308. Going off their websites the Sig and the CVA are both short barrels and going to rob velocity. The Mesa will be your best option with a 22”. You should be able to find a load that the Mesa liked with either the 165 accubonds or 168TTSXs somewhere around 2800fps mv.

P_ham,
Would you mind posting the weight of the action/bolt, I’m considering a very similar build and have been trying to decide between custom/semi custom because I would prefer crf and 3-position safety but haven’t been able to find what a Winchester action weights. I even called...
Shooters pro shop had a bunch of 180 gr accubond 3rds late summer. In the description it stated that some of the tips may break off in shipping. Sounds like you may have gotten some ammo loaded with that lot.
Edited to add link...
Also if you reload you could try necking up 280AI brass or use 270/280 brass and see if that works since they are all just slightly longer. But if it was me giving that a try I would use COW rather than a bullet to see if it also expanded to much at the base.

If you want to use factory ammo, the only think I could think to do would be to have a smith set the barrel back 1-2 full revolutions and re camber as the improved. If you’re good with reloading either a 300 Sherman or the 30 Gibbs.

There’s nothing like a beautiful walnut stock on a m70… not the French walnut but I’ve seen a couple RMEF 300wsm supergrades floating around on gunbroker that have convinced me it’s better for my health if I just don’t go window shop anymore.
Millerkiller, when I look at winchesters site it only shows what you show for the “original” extreme weather the extreme weather MB (trumpkin’s link) and the extreme weather tungsten mb both show the 300wsm as in production.

It will depend on what bullet, muzzle velocity, and altitude but for general use I’ve always set mine up for 1.5” high at 100. That puts it roughly dead on at 200, ~7” low at 3, and just under 20” low at 400.

No worries. I would say that you have very little if any loss.
In my 06, I’m shooting the 168TTSX around 2925 (and I’m not pushing it hard). I haven’t worked up a load yet but according to Barnes’ load data (I’ve always found their data to be accurate) you can push the 130gr TTSXs right...
So it’s a bit of a trade off. Since copper is harder than lead, generally copper bullets need more velocity to fully expand. Going lighter helps with higher velocity and because most copper bullets maintain nearly all their weight they penetrate as far/farther than heavier cup and core...
Midway has SGK and interlocks in the 130-140 gr range. If you watch barnes site they should have TTSXs and LRXs in stock from time to time. I’ve seen the .308 168gr TTSXs in stock a couple times over the past 3-4 months.
