I'm the guy that never wins anything. I am the last person still holding a ticket at the end of a raffle but not this year.
I ended up drawing a Wyoming 113 bull tag and a unit 2 Colorado early season bull in the hybrid draw. Going to be an interesting fall.
My dad finally retired from backcountry elk hunting in 2015 at 73 years old. He killed the bull of his dreams that year and after 56 elk seasons he called it quits for the horseback type hunts. He and my mom still go out on their own and hunt cows every year in the lower country and get them...
Deadfall does present a problem for the horses but we have cut lots of our own trails through th thick timber for our use that aren't located on any maps. Overall I don't see the guys the guys on horses being your biggest challenge to getting an elk.
I was there when it happened. The local officials totally screwed that guy and I guess he thought it was his only option. I used to have some pics of the dozen I'll have to see if I can find them. That was a crazy day!
Hi everyone,
Just thought I would introduce myself. I have lived and hunted in Colorado my entire life so hopefully I can be be of help to those who would like additional information here. I have always hunted public land DIY and have enjoyed great success doing so. Look forward to contributing...
