MTorWY,
I have 166 gr HH out of my Tikka M695 in 30-06 3,000Fps with H4350.
I just got a new Weatherby Vanguard in .270 that I am working up a load with the 117gr HH.
And my wife’s Tikka T3 Superlite in 6.5 Creedmoor is pushing a 110 gr HH @ 3,250 FPS.
I have a Tikka M695 in 30-06. I loaded up 166gr HH in it. I have yet to put a round into an elk but there is no doubt that’s what I will be shooting. I get sub MOA out to 500.
In my experience with the 6.5 Creedmoor, Varget is the powder for bullets 120gr and under. Above that and I would say H4350 is my favorite. That being said, there are some really good options in the Reloader powders but I haven’t been able to get my hands in any.
I have loaded up the 110HH in my wife’s Tikka T3X SL in 6.5 Creedmoor. I ended up going with 44.0 gr of Varget. It holds sub MOA out to 500 yards. That is the farthest I have been able to stretch them out. Here is some of my load work up.
If I had to chose only one it would be H4350. I have great rounds worked up for my 30-06 and my 6.5 creedmoor. If I could have two I would take Varget.
I was going to do a post on here about my load development in my Tikka M695 30-06 and we Wife’s Tikka T3X super light in 6.5 Creedmoor. I am shooting the 110 HH in the 6.5. I am getting 3,260 with 44.0Gr Varget.
I have used 100gr Slick Tricks. They fly great for me. I have not been the happiest with the blood trail though. But I have shot a 6x5 bull, a cow elk, and a few other bucks and does and they have all died fast with one arrow. Just not much of a blood trail.
Congrats on your 25-06. I won this rifle at a banquet dinner. I’m not mad at the .270 but if I could have picked a caliber it would have been the 25-06.
