    Bear calls: Electronic or hand-held?

Well, what the heck... Bears have fur... :) Follow-up question: What calls do people like? I've never tried calling a bear before. Read that some folks like the Primos Cow Girl. I'm *GUESSING* that any decent cow call would be ok.

Huh. Didn't even occur to me. I will do that. Thanks. --Dana

    Bear calls: Electronic or hand-held?

BTW, this is for a Fall hunt. I'm in CO and we only can hunt bears in the fall.

    Bear calls: Electronic or hand-held?

Did search for this and didn't find it, so here's a question for folks: Does anyone have experience using an electronic predator call for bears? I see plenty of utube vids with hand-held calls. Haven't found any with the electronic ones. Are they worth the money? Thanks. --Dana

    CO 22 bear/elk

Hi All, Anyone ever hunt CO unit 22 for bear? I drew a cow muzzy tag and it looks like the success rate is decent (for elk). But what I really want is a bear, so I grabbed a bear tag as well. I’ve never been there, but it looks interesting. Anyone been there for bear? Seems like a lot of...

    CO GMU 18 Matheson reservoir

Hey All, Does anyone have any experience around Matheson reservoir in CO GMU 18? I’m thinking about picking up a leftover cow tag for first rifle, and I have been looking at this area for a couple of years, just haven’t had the opportunity to get up there. There is private land around the res...

Barr huntin’ time again near Steamboat Springs CO

Well, didn’t get a bear. Turns out the area I had picked out in my escouting wasn’t exactly Bear Mecca. Found this out on the third day. I did talk to a guy the last day who hunts the area a lot and he gave me some great pointers, which was pretty cool. So, some good exercise, great pics...

Barr huntin’ time again near Steamboat Springs CO

Thanks for the responses. I must have read wrong; I thought there wasn’t a lot of oak brush around the Steamboat area. That was just based off of distribution maps I saw online. Now I know to expect to see some. Nothing beats on-the-ground intel. Flatlandhunter, I had a similar experience a few...

Barr huntin’ time again near Steamboat Springs CO

Well, it’s that time again: bear hunting. I’ve had a tag for the last three years and have not been able to go, mostly due to work. Not this year: I have my tag and I’m going. I’ve been doing my homework to narrow down my hunt area, but being a rookie bear hunter, I will take any tips I can...

Hi, and thanks for the offer. The bear tag I have is for a really large area, so any pointers you can give would be much appreciated. I have 4 days to hunt, so I want to do a lot of e-scouting, but I want to do it intelligently. Thanks. --Dana

    Deer/Bear CO GMU 41/42/52

Thanks wllm1313. Turns out I did not get the buck tag, so now I’m just looking for bear. Any pointers on where to scout would be great. Maytag encompasses several units, so I would like to narrow it down if I could. —Dana

    Deer/Bear CO GMU 41/42/52

Hey All, I drew a bear tag for GMU 41/42/52 for the Sept season. I'm hoping to pick up a leftover muley buck tag for the same areas tomorrow when the tags become available. The muley tag would be for the muzzleloader season, which happens during the bear season, so I would be able to hunt with...

    Anyone Hunted the Kaibab?

Ahhhhh.... Fond memories. Took my first deer there when I was 14 or 15. Can't help you now, as that was, well, more than a few years ago. Okay, a few decades ago. At the time there were deer all over. Wish you well! --Dana
