    To clarify, I hunted through JJHack - his was a stainless Ruger 77 .30-06 with a Leupold scope. My PH had a pre-64 Winchester Model 70 in .375, also with a Leupold scope, that was his loaner rifle, but he was mainly a Big 5 PH. So in my limited experience, the loaner guns were great.

    A .30-06 should be fine. I shot some of my game there with a .358 Win with fairly hot handloads and 225 gr Partitions. The PH has a Ruger .30-06 that is his loaner gun for plains game. Plus, the trackers are so good that unless you marginally wounded it, they will find it.

    Stuff you don't like for no good reason

    Barnes copper bullets?

    I load the 100 gr and 115 gr TSX for my .257 Wthby. It shoots the 115 gr slightly better but both work extremely well on deer and pigs and even elk with the 115 gr.

    .357 Mag Loading

    W296/H110, 4227 and 2400 will all work well from a rifle. In .44 mag and .45 Colt model 92s, I even use Unique and Titegroup with good results.

    Rinella article.. CUT AND PASTED

    I met Steve Rinella while hunting pigs on Tejon Ranch. He was an arrogant, "too good to mingle with the peons" kind of guy. Joe Rogan was with him, and he was just the opposite. Friendly, hang out and have a beer around the fire with us. He was full of funny stories and enjoyed hearing ours.

    Hornady Interlock Bullets?

    They should work just fine out of a .30-06. The 180s actually worked pretty well on some big hogs with thick gristle plates out of a .300 Win Mag. I knew some guys in Montana who swore by Interlocks out of .30-06s and even .25-06s.
