Hunting, Technology, and a little Reflection

This might be worth looking into. I know they aren't breaking any laws by using the thermals outside of hunting hours, but I believe they passed a law this past session (SB 106) saying you cant hunt within 24 hours of using an aircraft (which now includes drones). I'm not sure, this article...

Hunting, Technology, and a little Reflection

I think there's a lot more of this going on than people realize. I'd be a pretty damn efficient elk hunter if I didn't have to spend much of my hunting hours locating elk.

I'm assuming this is in Montana?

Hunting, Technology, and a little Reflection

Bowhunters - not a big impact?

It means the statewide 900 tag won’t be valid in Region 3 anymore. Region 3 now has its own region specific permit with a quota of 500. That’s 500 permits, not a harvest quota.

“Limited permit” but we need to ensure that everyone that applies for it is able to draw it.

Meanwhile they increase the archery antelope quota for the rest of the state….blows my mind.

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

Are you referring to the unrecovered animal part? I don’t think people would claim they lost an animal if they hadn’t. I’m also not sure why people would be afraid to admit they lost an animal in an anonymous survey, but even if that was the case, I think less than perfect data is better than no...

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

I’d add days hunted, weapon used to harvest, and if you shot an animal that you didn’t recover.

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

I grew up in Region 7 and most of the people I grew up around that are my age or older very rarely kill a deer anymore for the reasons you mentioned. I know NR harvest more MD in Region 6 and 7 than residents. It would be really interesting to see a breakdown of the resident harvest in R6 &...

You have to request them now.

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

Sometimes I worry that the commissioners and legislature pay too much attention to those Facebook comments and not enough to official public comments. I think commissioner Wargo is smart enough not to worry about the Facebook comments but I know a lot of the legislators read them.
