djochum, I hand load for my 7mm-08 but, when I bought my Tikka T3, I used factory ammo for break in and sighting in my scope. Plus, I alway like to find factory ammo that works should I need it. I tried Federal (I believe Speer Hot-Cor) and Hornady factory 139gr SST and accuracy was over 2"...
I've been using a Frankford Arsenal Perfect Seat hand primer for over a year now and I couldn't be happier. It is easy to set up and use plus, it provides the ability to adjust the depth of the primer seat. It is well built with no noticeable slop in any of the moving parts. Best of all, it...
I have reloaded 286 gr NP's and 285 gr. Norma Oryx's using Ramshot Big Game with good results. Both bullets proved to be accurate with a slight edge going to Nosler Partitions. That said, Norma Oryx factory loads shoot well for factory ammo. I recently started reloading 250 gr Accubonds and...
I just ordered 4 boxes of Sierra bullets for various calibers I reload. Total shipping was $9.95 and the total savings was substantial. Probably should have ordered more and, may still.
My recommendation would be to try Sierra GameKing's, either hand loaded with proven loads (published data for powder charge. bullet weight with SAMI reloading specs) or factory ammo. If they don't shoot better than what you have already tried, I'd suggest you be happy with the rifle's accuracy...
I use Imperial Sizing Die Wax and a little goes a long way. Since I have to handle each case when resizing, one swipe of the wax will do several cases. I've tried the spay stuff and, although it is quick, the overspray is just too messy for my small reloading bench.
I have an Eberlestock F1 Mainframe with two batwings and a zip-in panel. I can carry all my gear and anything else that I am capable of packing out. I have installed a bird bag and a pouch for a water bladder in the pack it is all I need for my hunting needs. I've used it for an elk hunt...
300 Win Mag - Nosler Partitions
25-06 - Nosler Accubonds or Sierra GameKings HPBT
9.2x62 - 250 gr. TTSX or 286 gr. NP's
For all my other calibers, (no longer going to be hunting elk) I'm moving to Sierra GameKings where it makes sense. Over the years, I've used them to sight-in rifles and...
Take a look at the Vanguard Quest T62U. At 2.24 lbs, it is relatively lightweight and comes with a yoke for shooting. I also have Vanguard pan head that came with an older tripod that I have used with a spotting scope. I've found that the yoke actually works pretty well as a rest form my...
HowaMini, as I expressed earlier in the thread, I am really happy with both my SWFA SS 6 and 10 power scopes. With the budget you have indicated, I really don't think you can find a much better scope for the money. I've now spend more time behind the fixed 6 power and have become even more...
+1 on the SWFA SS scopes as they are a really good value. For the money, their glass is clear with good resolution and turrets provide precision, repeatable dialing. Most of all, I like their MOA quad reticle for hunting and have replaced scopes on my 7mm-08 with an SS 6x42 and my 300 Win Mag...
You will love the rifle. I use Browning X-Lock rings on my 3-9X40 Nikon scope and yes, they do look like Talley's. I will soon be replacing this scope with an SWFA SS 10X42 scope and will need to replace the rings with 30mm rings. I will likely go back with Browning X-Lock rings, since they...
Take a look at the Vanguard Quest T62U 3-in-1 Shooting Sticks. They are can be quickly configured as a mono-pod, bi-pod or tri-pod. They have plenty length for spotting or shooting from standing position or, when fully collapsed, work great for sitting and every shooting position in between...
I use Warne Maxima rings on my Tikka T3 7mm-08. Unlike most rings, they mount vertically (side-to-side) and Warne does not recommend lapping maxima rings or, for that matter, using lock-tite on the screw threads. I have used these rings on several rifles and have been very happy with them...
