Thanks Randy!! I've been told 10 percent of the hunters kill 90 percent of the elk and n.v I agree 100 percent. Weve only hunted antelope in Wyoming so Hopefully this will be the start of some better elk hunting than we do in Colorado.
Yeah we usually hike 1000 vertical feet to about 10000 ft and about 3 miles from the truck where we hunt in Colorado. Most of the time we are in the elk year after year.
Yeah I printed off the pages with the number of points to draw needed and went thru and highlighted the primo areas within our points available. Then I searched on the map to make sure they were not in griz country. Then I looked at access. I wish I knew that alot of good areas were able to he...
Honestly we would be good with a decent 6x6. Dont have to be a 350 plus. Probably even a 300 would make us happy. Have hunted colorado for years. Just hoped 9 points would get us a good chance at a decent bull without having to hire a guide or hunt country that we cant get around in. We can...
I have been trying to find a good area that we can draw with 9 points. Here are my qualifications. DIY, no Grizzlies, moderate terrain, public land or HMA type hunt. Have hunted Wyoming for antelope on a HMA before. Been looking at area 23, but reading lots of negative about it. We are 47 to 70...
Miramonte has a great campground and porta potties. No showers or power. There are several folks that just camp most anywhere on the side of the forest road. Have hunted that area a bunch of times. I generally stay in town in a rental trailer with hot showers and washer and dryers. I can give...
PM me and I will give you a few names and numbers to talk to. ART Fox and The weimers have been all over that unit. Also may be of some help getting one out.
Unit 70 and 62.
I have hunted both during rifle seasons. Never during bow season. In 70 you might try lizard head wilderness for high hunting or mailbox park for pin ions and cedars. In unit 62 we hunted near short point and monument hill. Good luck.
Look up sunset canyon outfitters. Curt Weimer runs a hunting camp out of there. He also has non-guided trips where you stay in his cabins and use his showers and get fed and dont have to pack all of the camping gear. He will also help you pack out your kill with his horses for a small fee. We...
Look near Short Point Cut-off. It is up north of Windy Point and barely south of Brushy mesa. That is where we saw the most elk. There are some cabins in there that are on Private land so be aware of the private land. Also look at EscalanteRanch.com. They are the ones with the cabins in there...
