    Are Housecats Varmints?

Steamer, He lost both his cat and his case. The G&F ruled unanimous against him. It seems he moved here a couple of weeks before the incident from back east somewhere. Maybe we should put a sign up at the state line that says "WELCOME TO ARIZONA! Where everything is in the food chain...

Year round Coyote hunting - Yes or No????

I've killed enough coyotes in my life that it wouldn't bother me if ai never killed another. I usually start hunting about mid Oct and hunt until about the first of March. I kill plenty of them in the winter and have never had a reason to kill them in the spring except for predation control...

    Are Housecats Varmints?

The coyotes around here think they are a delicacy! My airedale does too! And niether is all that picky about whether they are pets or not so they must taste about the same.

    243 Load

The theory behind this is that the closer you load the cases to max capacity the more consistent your powder ignition will be. This is probably the reason that the IMR4350 gave you more consistent velocity. Just my opinion, but I would work with some different powder charges using the 4350 +...

    Hand Call preference

I use Lohman and Sceery closed reed, the Sceery cow in heat open reed, and a Cronk Howler. The howler is great for barks, yelps, and howling and the cow in heat call works great for any other sounds I want to make. For a basic rabbit in distress I like the closed reed calls mentioned.

Favorite caliber for coyotes and bobcats

I've used a 22-250, several .243's, and a few other calibers for them. Right now I'm using a Ruger M77 MKII in .223 and I like it. Easy on fur, accurate and fun to shoot, and ammo/brass are cheap to get. If I'm calling open country sometimes I take my .243.

    Prairie Dog shooting

Delw, I did most of my shooting up north of Joseph City near the Navajo res. I was up there calling coyotes and found several colonies of them. I've done a lot of riding (horses) in the area south of the freeway and between Joseph City and Winslow and I saw a lot of them in there. It's been...

    Prairie Dog shooting

Just a note about doing things like what was posted above. Brandishing a weapon is a felony unless you are in fear of your life or in defence of another's life. If you pull/point a gun at someone you should be sure you would be justified in shooting them for what they did. Shootine squirrel...

Electronic Calls - Phantom or FoxPro

Hey Elk Chaser, I'm putting together an electronic caller using an MP-3/JS power pro/azden wireless mic setup right now so if you want one of the Phantoms I have one I'll sell you pretty cheap ($100.00??). I bought it last July just after they came out and it's been used very little. I'll...

    Broadhead weights

Worthlessnut, Your setup sounds similar to mine. 29" 2213 arrows but I shoot a 60# bow. I use 100 gr broadheads because I get better arrow flight with them than with 125 gr heads. I've killed antelope and whitetails with this setup and it works fine. <FONT COLOR="#800080" SIZE="1">[ 15 July...

I got drawn and I need HELP

roytax, I had the best luck by glassing the edges of meadows and then sneaking up on the birds. Calling won't work well unless you scatter the birds first because they are not mating at this time of year. When they scatter they will call to each other and then you can call them back as they...

    Scent absorbing clothing

I have to go with JJ and bcat on this one. Spending time in the woods will do a lot more for your hunting success than a trip to the local sporting goods store. Thanks for all your posts jj, I've read a bunch of them and enjoyed them all!

    Elevation

I live a 4500' elevation and I remember one time we went hunting at 9200' for elk and we all had to re-sight our bows cause they all shot about 6" low at 30 yards. We all had our beliefs as to why but nothing we could prove. I would just make sure you try your bow when you get there. Take care,
