My 6.5 Grendel has almost no recoil, and can take anything from whitetails up to elk, with the right bullet weight, and distance. -

240 weatherby mag
Well, if I may, try a 6.5 Grendel, I have a CZ 527-Lux/American, it has no felt recoil, super short bolt lift its called a mini Mauser action, should fit him great..Ithink the felt recoil is about the same as a 5.56. -

I own both the .240 and .257 WM, they almost seem to have about the same felt recoil, like a .270 win sort of, as for your kids, best to start them off with a .243 win. -

300 win mag, I bought a rifle a few years back in .308 Norma Mag, just try and find ammo for it now sigh.. -

.243 for my son
I shoot a very nice Rem M700 in .243 win, shoots great its the heavy barrel one, mbut there is no recoil at all, you could get him a med barrel, the older Winchester M70 are also great, if you dont mind paying a bit more for your hunting ammo, if you see a 6mm rem, they are just great on deer... -
