WY proposed regulation change Disabled Veterans!

This is a guy who is taking advantage of a 5 day season extension as a "100% disabled military veteran". This is exactly the abuse the Department is trying to avoid by modifying the requirements. The changes won't affect those with qualifying physical disabilities who would benefit from the advantage of a 5 days season extension.
This bull was killed on a general unit in Wyoming days before the season opened. As were all the bucks he so proudly displays behind him during the comentary.

The therapeutic value and conservation return to the community (of this guy picking off his “target” buck/bull a week ahead of everyone else, every year) should be appreciated by all. Hopefully the commission all gets a chance to view that video before a decision is made.

Ha! I’ve wondered about that guys string of nice bucks for a while….

I have the utmost respect for anyone who served, but that guy doesn’t need a head start.

Man never really paid attention to who was getting tags or how they were used. I agree that guy dosnt need a head start, same as the guy Appaloosa seen coming out of the high country with a big buck 2 days early, I appreciate everyone who serves our country but they shouldn’t be taking advantage of programs like this . There are people that really could use a head start so why take that away from them with self greed is how I see it with guys like that.

My FIL has been totally blind since 1987, before he was my FIL. He’s the one the introduced me to the high country with only one eye and the other slowly going. Both industrial accidents. But we have had some good hunts, cow moose, cow elk and deer . Talk about a challenge, he had a rifle set up that had pistol scope on it. He would get everything set up then his eyes, who ever was behind him would direct his direction and tell him when to squeeze the trigger!

He got the permit to start the 5 days early. But I think he only put it to use once that I can remember and that was for a doe deer in a unit close to home. No tags donated. Just went through the regular draws. Had a few 100 cow elk tags, I wished he would have tried 5 days early on those tags cause those desert elk don’t like to hang around lol. But still good times and memories were made.

I remember when he drew a cow moose tag, back when moose were more plentiful, but I was his eyes on that hunt and got caught up in the moment. After the shot I said let’s go drug him through a creek bed, twisted his ankle then got another shot and I left him standing there and took off running to see if I could find it. Lol found it but then had to run back and get him still holding the gun not knowing what was going on. Fortunately we finally got it accomplished. Now it’s etched in my memories!! Now I believe people in that condition should have some advantage but he never used it. Respect to him!!

There are people that could use a head start and people who abuse the systems in place which is pretty sad. Kinda bummed he hasn’t hit me up this year to get him applied for the draws but after chasing desert cow elk the last few years he might have had enough who knows but if he’s done it’s been a good ride and I’ll get additional cow tag if he thinks he wants some meat for the freezer.

I fail to see the problem. This whole issue boils down to jealousy and judging other people.

Yah, claiming a severe disability so you can obtain a season extension permit to kill bulls in the wilderness five days before the season opens.
Just jealousy, or maybe I care more about protecting the opportunity for people who truly deserve it?

Is there a limited number of these permits available? The dude who is physically capable of going into the back country, but still qualifies for the program due to his VA rating, taking away opportunities from those who can't?

The problem is unethical actions. The intent is for people who can’t make the treks. The moron in the video has negative self awareness and probably pat’s himself on the back. Unfortunately dipshits like him are increasing the likelihood of a good program going away.

He looks the part. But what about the guy who doesn’t? Should disability have to be visible to the lay person?

I don’t like that video, if the guy is on the permit he shouldn’t be able to profit off from it. I don’t know him or if he is even in the program. Or whatever for him into the 100% rating. After going thru the process I know the evidence was significant.

Purely from the biology side of it, If he is, that bull isn’t taking anything away from anyone else on the program. Units are still over objective, this isn’t damaging the resource.

This is a tough issue to discuss, as I feel that most of us (probably all) support legitimate uses of this program. I don’t think anyone wished to disparage those with legit disabilities.

It is difficult to watch that video and not begin to wonder, though.

2 wars and Al Gore’s internet has had a significant impact. More information available, more Non Profits advocacy, and access have all supported the increase.

In 2.3 mil there are going to be the similar % of bad apples.

Judging the 90% off the action of the other 10% is where I have a problem with this.

It’s the you don’t look like my assumptions policy.

Does it surprise you that the disabilities went up after a major war?

It’s almost like the chart correlates to the massive build up during Iraq and Afghanistan wars

Im DAV, so I feel I can have a direct opinion on the matter. I'll preface it with the fact that I am not 100%. There are a lot of things wrong with the program and I submitted my comments for it. It's very much a buddy buddy system where paperwork is ready to go for friends of the programs and just needs a signature to drop off. This makes the "first come first serve" ridiculously unfair. Also, family members that don't even have a license or hunters education can put in and donate to a family member, adding more people into the draw system. My biggest complaint is the 5 day early start. I honestly don't care about the 5 days, it's more of the fact that you have hunters running around with firearms while other people are in the field archery hunting in full camo. Its a recipe for disaster. If they want 5 days, the regular rifle season should be pushed back to avoid injuries/death potential. I think the only way to do it, would be to put all donated tags into a secondary draw before season open dates. This would end a lot of the B.S. that goes on.
