I wasn't going to buy a cougar tag this year. I don't really hunt them, just carried a tag incase I happen to get a shot at one while deer or elk hunting. That's never happened. But Friday night my second oldest daughter's billy goat "Billy" turned into cougar poop. So maybe I'll have to get a tag this year after all.

One of my roommates in college had two goats. Cletus and Fritz were the most destructive and annoying animals I have ever been around. I have passionately hated goats ever since. My heart goes out to your daughter but the cougar did make the world a better place.

Truth be known nobody is missing that goat too much. He was noisy, smelled horrible and would pee on you if you got too close. But they have three other goats they like plus a couple of calves and a couple of weird looking decorative pigs. I found out the cat killed a neighbor's calf a week before killing the goat. Last but not least they have three little kids running around the property. Everyone would kinda like it if they didn't get eaten by a cougar.

What state are you in? If the lion is killing livestock im sure a call to your dfg would result in a houndsman coming out to handle it.

I live in Oregon. The state can bring in hounds, No one else can, but they don't like to do it in a place like this. It is one of those areas where there are hundreds of 5-10 acer lots with a lot of rich people many of who are animal rites types. My daughter can only afford to live there because her in laws gave them the property. Just too many property owners to deal with. Besides most folks around here that aren't animal rites people tend to want to deal with these sorts of things without the state getting involved or even knowing about. My son in law had an offer from an ex coworker offering to spend his social distancing time sitting in a tree all night overlooking one of the other goats tied up down by the creek. If there is anymore trouble he may take him up on the offer.

If this same cat has killed livestock twice, there will be more trouble, you can count on it. Better to get after it now than to wait for the next incident. Is it going to be a goat next time, or a pet dog, or a kid?
