Vintage Ithaca Model 37 Shotguns Engraving

5E800D16-9D4B-4F90-A6B1-DFDD9940646E.jpeg Not sure if this is vintage enough to be what you were looking for but I’d say yes they look hand engraved to me. I love this gun, my Dad gave to me many years ago and I just love to shoot it.

It’s an Ithica over and Under. Will try to grab a full photo later

I have a 1930s Ithaca Knick trap gun with hand engraving. From what I read it is common on the older guns.

The Ithaca 37 that I had did not appear to be hand engraved. That’s just my guess.

It was a much slicker, more precision, better made, and better designed(thank you Mr Browning) shotgun than my 870. That said, it had one problem, and I’ve heard of it being an issue on the BPS as well. The shell stop does not move very far. With domestic shells(flat rim) it worked perfectly. With foreign shells(rounded rim) it would spit an extra out on the ground. I tweaked it to work perfectly with foreign shells BUT THEN, it would not release domestic shells. I tweaked it back. Now it would not work with foreign shells. I bought a new shell stop. Same problem. Eventually I realized that I could tweak it to work with the foreign shells and then grind the center of the shell stop back, and it allowed both foreign and domestic shells to work properly. Unfortunately it was still a fixed full that shot some loads extremely well, but others somewhat poorly, and it beat the snot out of me. My 3.5” 870 feels like it kicks less with 2.25oz than the 2 3/4” Ithaca 37 did with 1.5oz. It also did not fit me well, and if I wasn’t practiced up I couldn’t hit anything with it. My 870 fits me better and it shoot where I look even when I’m rusty.
