After 8 years of application, I finally drew a nonresident Utah spring black bear tag. Any Legal Weapon. Season date(s): Mar 30 - May 31, 2019.

Any good? Usual set up wall tent & then six-mile hike on horse trail, two valleys off the horse trail, spike camp - type unit?

I muzzleloader pronghorn hunted in NE Utah in 2015 & harvested a black bear in Alaska a few years back.

Any information is greatly appreciated. Let the research begin! Thanks in advance, TheGrayRider.

Is it spot and stalk only? I’ve tried the objective harvest spot and stalk in that unit many times. I saw sign but no bear. There are bears there and if there’s no hound hunting taking place you have a chance. Be ready to glass and glass and commit a fair amount of time. I know one guy who shot one spot and stalk on that unit and he put in 27 days. He was passed on a lot of bears though. Bring an electric predator caller and try calling where there’s sign. In Utah water is key. A lot of water holes high up in the mountains that you’ll see tracks around.

Mid to late May is a good time to focus on if you have a short time to hunt.
