Trapping Thread 2025/2026

I agree. I can do what’s needed to get my furs tanned and get them back to me in beautiful shape for displaying or sewing but, as a perfectionist, it kills me to see how nice some can put up fur. Someday I’ll have time to devote to it.
Well now that I have a couple sewing machines I can see us getting a lot more fur tanned. It will be cool to take the fur through the whole process

Intermountain Fur Harvester sale was this weekend and prices were up on most items.
Cats averaged 631
Marten averaged 110
Some other things did really well too. There were more cats there than I expected to see.

Ok, this is our first year trapping, or goals are nest predators reduction and have fun! The property we are trapping is 90 acres with an additional 25 adjacent across a clay road. We have been focusing along a creek and a swamp edge, where we can see tracks. This leaves roughly 75% of the property untouched. Our catch numbers have dropped off drastically in the last two weeks.
How do I best choose trap location for raccoons/possums when I can not see sign (at least tracks, I probably just done know/recognize the sign they are leaving). The rest of the property is a mix of 30 year old unmanaged planted pines and hardwoods with mowed trails and three 1-2 acre green fields. I’ve walked the trails and what dirt I can see without finding tracks? Should I concentrate on trails, intersections, habitat transitions? Thanks in advance!

FYI the landowner has dogs which is why we aren’t targeting coyotes and using DPs.

Looks like I’m going to have to land here. Youth turkey season starts tomorrow so I pulled all of my traps today.

2026 Total:
Trash Panda-8
Georgia Silver Fox - 9
Skunks - 3
Coyotes-5
Bobcats-4

Might try and get some coyote traps out again in May before the fawns hit the ground.

Just set the dog proofs on either side of the creek in various locations. Raccoons won’t be far from water typically.
