I just try to do what Aaron Franklin advises. Google franklin brisket. Everyone I have smoked, is the best ever!
 
I have a camp chef pellet grill that my wife found a good deal on Last year. I didn’t want to buy something made abroad due to concerns over quality, but the ones I found made in the US were just more than I could justify.

I am very pleased. Controls work well and comes to temp quickly. Very good smoke control. Great for a first time smoker for me.
 
Also have Bradly, same issues as others with temp. Built a separate outer box for extra insulation and works a lot better now. The pucks are convenient but overall would not buy again.
