Rings vs Base

I just picked up an Anschutz .17 HMR from a friend this week and have a Leupold 4-12 on the way. This is my first nice rimfire rifle - looking to hunt squirrels and punch tiny holes in paper.

Do I need to install a base on the rifle, or should I get integrated rings? Any suggestions on what I should get?

I will never buy integrated rings/base again. I now use a rail that I skim bed then use 7075 rings with Ti cross bolts so I have the ability to get the scope/ring combo where I want it.
