This came out of the News article for Mt fish and game, it really holds true to what one can achive if they only open their ears and sit back to listen as life goes on... :)

AUTUMN IS A GOOD TIME TO RELAX AND LISTEN TO THE WILDLIFE

Fall is an ideal time to give your wildlife listening skills a workout. There is a palpable quiet in the outdoors, broken occasionally by the scuttle of leaves or a squirrel chattering. Sounds seem to be particularly clear in this still before winter's storms.

Because autumn is also mating season for deer, elk and moose, there are opportunities to hear them vocalize. Moose and elk are in the rut roughly from mid-September to mid-October and the rut for deer is in the November time-frame.

Only a few short miles from many Montana cities, wildlife listeners may hear the bugle of an elk, or elk rubbing their antlers on trees or shrubs. Elk like to hang out in mountain parks and on grassy river bottoms this time of year. They often call in the dusk of the evening.

If you hear a moose vocalizing, you may notice other moose signs such as droppings and "hookings" where moose have rubbed their antlers. Moose sometimes make a mud pit during the rut by slinging mud out, urinating there and rubbing their neck and shoulders in the mud.

Deer are not vocal as moose and elk are in the rut, but bucks are more visible this time of year because they are out looking for does. You may also hear the clash of horns as they spar.

Magpies, Clark's nutcrackers and ravens are birds that hunters are accustomed to hearing in the woods this time of year. Quarrelsome squirrels are always fun, and their scolding may alert you to the presence of other wildlife.

One of the most treasured sounds of fall is the eerie calling of migrating Canada and snow geese.

As for anglers, they may be more aware in the fall of the blurp of trout feeding as they break the water's surface and sink back.

As an added benefit to sharpening your outdoor listening skills, each of these sounds may also evoke many other good memories and sensations. And that can be a simple, inexpensive way to relieve stress.
