Recoil Lug

I am tinkering with a semi-custom Remington 700 build. I have an AG Composites stock and the recoil lug slot is 0.400”, but the factory lug measures 0.200”. After hunting season, I will send this gun to be rebarreled, action trued and stock glass bedded. However, I would like to use this rifle as-is for this season. Any harm in shooting it with the AG stock before bedding, given the extra space in the recoil lug?

If the recoil lug is already touching the back of the lug slot and you have it torqued to spec (55-60in lbs I think) you should be OK. Lots of "cheapo" stocks out there where the recoil lug doesn't touch anything at all.
If you are shooting a magnum type cartridge that might change things a bit though.

If you are up for it, bedding the recoil lug yourself is really a quick and easy DIY fix. I've had rifles that I've bedded myself re-barreled before, and my gunsmith just dremels out the bedding compound if he needs to.
