Rebuilding the 25Gibbs

Started work on my old mans 25Gibbs. He made it w an 09 Omendorf 98 Mauser. Beautiful rifle. Striped the action down n cleaning it all up. Was just going to refinish and rebed the stock he made but I found there is a lot of wood I can work w on it still.
So I’ve cut in a rollover cheek piece, added a palm swell, narrowed the forearm, and I’ve sharpened up the lines. Still roughed out n have a bunch of work to go. Also drawing somethings to carve into the forearm tip and pistol grip cap. Will keep posting as it comes along.
Any suggestions on metal finishing?

Any details on the scope mounting? I have a mauser action but it is drilled with two holes in front and one back. Running a leupold 1pc currently but looks like you might have two piece weaver?

My old man drilled n tapped it for weaver mounts. He did everything on it, barreled, chambered, cut/bent/welded the bolt, trigger work. Which I had the knowledge he does!!! The man has made some of the sweetest shooting firearms I’ve ever held

As for metal finish, still nothing beats a nice bluing and wood stock.
