I am buying my pp in wy this year. I plan on hunting CO 2 or 3 rifle season the next couple years. How many pp should i plan on having before i try to hunt wy.
And what other state can i just buy pp.

You will need three to be guaranteed a general tag this year. But there is always a random chance.

Most states with the point gimmick allow Point Saver strategy where you can merely would merely be awarded another point with 0% chance you draw a tag this year. However, why not apply for only the perceived best tag for that species in that state each year and maybe hit the lottery if any of the tags are allowed randomly? For example, would you not be able to hunt Wyoming bighorn if you drew the tag this year in the random draw rather than only seek a point?

My advice would be not to hold out for a 'glory' tag in Wyoming, ie. >10 points. There are plenty of general areas in the state that are awesome hunting opportunities.

I'll echo the sentiments here and say get your butt in the draw after buying your point this year. The random is a beautiful thing with low to no points. If you dont get lucky Colorado stills sells OTC tags in October.

MT, WY, CO, AZ are all easy to participate in point building for elk and deer. Throw in pronghorn also if you like. NM is all random.

Points in SD are cheap and easy for deer, but I haven't burned my points for a hunt yet. I do love visiting SD though, have a family vacation to the Black hills planned for October.

Those are all the states I participate in. I've done CA and AK, but not on any sort of regular basis, just easy tags I want to hunt that year.
